In today's podcast, I'll be introducing Bruce Suba: scientific glass, neon, and plasma. Bruce and I have been in conversation for over a year or so, we met in person last year at the Plasma Parley hosted by Glas, Neon Art Studio in Raleigh, NC.

This was recorded towards the end of my trip to the Bay area in January, where in addition to visiting, I was doing some Technical Consultation for Half Moon Bay Art Glass regarding acquired neon equipment, and passing that along for additional modifications and repairs by Bruce.

In addition to Mr. Suba's background we'll be hearing some much-needed wisdom in the pursuit of plasma, the need to learn as much as you can, the importance of connecting with communities such as the ASGS, the American Scientific Glassblowing Society, and other tidbits.

In today's podcast, we have David Wilson glassblower and owner of Atomic Solar for renewable solar energy. When it came to neon he was inspired by neon and furnace works of Paul Seide that he saw when visiting the Heller Gallery, which leads to his first Neon experience in 1993 as an assistant to Jacob Fishman at Penland School of Craft. He also created the florescent glass called Glo Glass that is sold exclusively at Spruce Pine which he's had years to play around with, so don't be shy to give you a ring or email, whether its about glass or perhaps a special project using solar energy.

Hello Lightning Tamers, this is episode number 19! In today's podcast we have Tommy Gustafsschiöld of Nordic Neon and Diod. He's one of the last remaining Neon Shops in all of Scandinavia. We'll hear about his beginnings and earlier life prior to neon, as well his recent explorations in making art whether it be a collaboration or his own. What I also find interesting is how he processes or bombards his neon tubes using a kiln or oven rather than a high power transformer, in addition, coating his own tubes.

By the time this podcast is released, I will have traveled to Sweden as part of the Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh Grant, where I had the opportunity to visit and travel with Tommy to The Glass Factory Boda. Here I assisted and taught a hot shop and plasma class with Ed Kirshner and Jaime Guerrero, where took what we learned from our class taught in Pittsburgh last year, essentially Blow and Glow 2.0. I also participated in the conversation for setting up neon and plasma for the Glass Art Society Conference in May 2020, where I will be one of the presenters.

Recorded shortly after Ed Blow and Glow class we discuss what techniques we would employ to make his shape work for plasma.
