Tapestry

Welcome to Episode 24 of Tapestry - this is a Pittsburgh-centric episode related to an upcoming event, but between my two guests, we cover a lot of ground. On this episode I sat down to interview Joshua Hartz, vocalist of God Hates Unicorns, a punk/industrial project, alongside Zac Rutter, a visual artist and activist here in Pittsburgh. Together they have combined forces to bring a charity event featuring local musicians and artists to Pittsburgh at the end of August in West Mifflin, PA.

WARNING: this episode gets into all sorts of questionable topics, some which may be offensive to listeners. Have a listen at your own risk!

God Hates Unicorns can be found on Facebook, Spotify, and their website:

Welcome to Episode 23 of Tapestry, where I got the chance to chat in-person with Austin Klinger, principal songwriter/guitarist for A Notion of Silence, and also phoned in Jesse Brock, the band's singer/guitarist, and frontman of two other progressive metal and rock bands, Edge of Reality, and Lines in the Sky. This episode is heavy on the sci-fi and goes into depth about everything from quantum physics to Mass Effect to how placing boundaries in the music writing process can lead to inspired creativity.

Welcome to Episode 22 of Tapestry, where I had the pleasure of chatting with one of my favorite singers in the progressive music world, Katie Thompson. She's involved in lots of projects, including her primary progressive metal band Chiasma, The Plagued Raven (an ambient duo), Kadebra (progressive metal/djent), and many others.

We discuss the pitfalls of mixing money with music, how she stays organized working with collaborators in different styles all over the world -- and how she created an electronic pop project about a mannequin to hone her production skills, and to pitch for a technical death metal band!

Disclamer: just listen to the beginning. This episode has terrible audio quality, possibly due to the fact that I recorded this with 14 PEOPLE IN A VAN heading to Dayton, Ohio. Take it or leave it! If you're new to the show, please don't let this be the barometer of my interviews. It's a bonus episode and presented as-is! Next week's episode will be back to usual quality.

*Also, some content warnings, if you're new to the show:

- graphic violence and gore

- lots of swearing and offensive language

- descriptions of drug use

- destruction of public property and theft

Today I chat with Scott Acquavella, one of the vocalist/guitarists of Cryptodira, to discuss plenty about their inspirations and upcoming/past tours. We also chatted about the European concertgoing mentality, how Cryptodira mixed old mythology with modern theories of intersectionality and oppression, and some strange band requests involving Adam Sandler.

Do you like sexy funky Viking doom rock? Then you might enjoy my conversation with the men of Almost Honest - a doom rock/metal band from just outside of Harrisburg, PA. Today's episode features the first international Tapestry guest, Kate Pavli, better known as Finding Kate. She and I had a wonderful chat about challenges the UK music scene is facing, what it was like to grow up between Australia and Cyprus (and now live in London working to release her first full-length album), and how she is writing her latest album, one single at a time.

Today’s episode is a great discussion with Chaney Crabb, the vocalist from technical death metal band Entheos. We chat about topics like how being engaged to a member of her band has advantages for the creative process, drawing lyrical inspiration from philosophy, psychology, and personal tragedy - and what the most criminal aspects of the music industry are.

TW/CW: there is brief mention of suicide and PTSD, if you are sensitive to these topics. Please listen to the episode at your own discretion!
