Happy Thanksgiving! In today's special Thanksgiving episode, I talk about the importance of practicing gratitude every day, not just on holidays like this one. Research supports the truth behind the principle that when we are grateful for things we already have in our lives, we open ourselves to receiving more. If you tend to be the "glass half empty" type of person instead of the "glass half full" type, consider working on a practice of gratitude every day. It will help to relieve your stress...and improve your life in general.
Also, please know that on this Thanksgiving Day, I am especially grateful for you, my listener (or watcher of you are watching the episode on the "Teachers in Transition YouTube Channel"). I am grateful for your listening and watching and for your being part of my growing community.

I want to speak specifically to some resume do's and don'ts and things that I think are important to keep in mind when you're crafting a resume for a new job. This is especially important for my teacher peeps who are looking to change professional career lanes all together. Many of them mistakenly think that listing all the things they've ever done as a teacher will somehow translate into a new career path and that is just not how it works. The dilemma is to distill to the extent that you can, the skills that you've developed as a teacher or as an educator and translate them into verbiage that a non-educator person outside of the world of education, whether it's in business or in the nonprofit sector, translate those skills into terms that the individual receiving the resume will understand.
Offer: To buy the "Resume Mini-Course" referenced in today's episode for a special price of only $75, click here: https://boitnottcoach.samcart.com/products/resume-mini-course.

Too many people believe that they can delay or defer sleep and still feel good and be productive. The truth is that they can't. At least not for very long. And as we get older, we become less and less able to get by on less than the amount of sleep our bodies require.
Sleep is necessary for our ability to manage our day-to-day stress. So, it's important to pay attention to how much sleep you need and how to make sure that you get the sleep your body needs to be healthy.
Listen to this episode of "Teachers in Transition" for tips on how to get the sleep you need. In addition to being a Life Strategies and Stress Management Coach, Dr. Kitty Boitnott is also a Sleep Science Coach. (She is also a Heart-Centered Career Transition and Job Search Coach who specializes in working with burnt-out teachers who are ready for a new career.

When undertaking a job search or career change, it is very important that you adopt a "growth mindset" and adopt a positive and open attitude. You need to start out with a playful attitude and look at all the various possibilities as you start your search. Then, as you narrow your focus and develop some clarity around what you want, you need to be aware that the process rarely goes quickly or smoothly. So you have to stay positive, flexible, and adaptable as you go.

Clutter isn't necessarily a sign of being busy. It's more a sign of being unorganized. It may also be a sign of procrastination. And frankly, it could be a sign of a lack of personal control.
More importantly than what clutter may be a sign of, however, are some of the problems that it can cause without your being aware of them. The truth is your clutter could be hurting you in ways you don't understand yet. Studies show that clutter is a problem that can manifest itself in your physical, mental, and financial health.

In this episode of Teachers in Transition, Kitty Boitnott introduces a friend and coach colleague, Becky Berry. Becky is a former teacher who does executive career coaching with women (mostly although she has men clients, too) who are looking to expand their professional reach because they're "not done yet."
Hear how Becky went from being a Special Education Teacher to Career Coach and how she urges her clients to consider the possibilities of their own careers even as one chapter may close. Another one is always capable of being opened.
Becky Berry is the owner of Becky Berry Career Coaching where she coaches women who are seriously done with settling on just any job. They’re ready to claim their value and their place at work. Her rich background in startups and entrepreneurship allows Becky to provide distinctive insights and strategies to clients as they pursue their business and life goals.
Becky has experienced several crossroads in her own life including careers as a magazine publisher, software entrepreneur, stay-at-home mom, social entrepreneur, and widowhood. Her experiences inform her coaching as she helps women create rich, meaningful lives on their own terms.
Becky also produces and co-hosts the Uniquely Brilliant podcast, and coming in November, the She’s Not Done Yet podcast. Follow her on her website, https://beckyberrycoach.com, Facebook, Instagram: @beckyberrycoach, Twitter: @beckyberrycoach, and on LinkedIn.

There are many reasons why people hesitate or procrastinate when they want to change careers. They don't know how or where to start. They "hope" that an opportunity will find them or that someone will recognize what they have to offer and they will get tapped.
Rarely do those kinds of things happen, however. The Job Fairy is not likely going to come knocking at your door unless you are making some sort of effort on your own. And there is no Prince coming to "save" you like the Prince in the story of Cinderella.
You must be willing to take some sort of action on your own, but it cannot be any sort of action. It needs to be intentional and it needs to be based on understanding what goes into a successful job search.
There are many moving parts to every successful job search. You need a resume that speaks to the job you want not the job you have had. You need a compelling cover letter and a stellar LinkedIn profile. You need to understand the Applicant Tracking System and how to interview well.
And the list goes on. Kitty Boitnott is starting a new Group Coaching Cohort of her "Jumpstart Your Job Search" program soon. If you would like to know more about what is included in the program, check out the program components here: https://teachersintransition.com/jumpstart-your-job-search-premium-program-for-job-seekers-and-career-changers. Gratitude isn't often thought of as a stress management strategy, but it should be. Consider the various things in your life for which you could be grateful. The air you breathe, for example. The people in your life who are there to support and uplift you or make you happy. Your pets. Your home and material possessions that you treasure. The moments when you laugh or just smile. When life starts to feel overwhelming, take a breath, and remind yourself that this too shall pass, but you have much for which to be grateful and think about those things for a moment. Doing so will change the trajectory of your thoughts and remind you that you have much to be grateful for no matter how the momentary stress may have your down.
This channel goes with a podcast by the same name, "Teachers in Transition." Kitty Boitnott, a former educator turned Heart-Centered Career Transition & Job Search Coach is an expert on teacher burnout and its negative physical effects on the body, mind, and soul.
