The San Jose Sharks hoped to end their five game skid as they began a five game road trip. That was not to be on this Saturday night. San Jose lost to the Vancouver Canucks 4-2, giving the Sharks their 6th straight loss. Tomas Hertl got a power play goal, while Nick Bonino scored in his 750th NHL game. Kaapo Kahkonen had a strong 35 save outing despite the loss.

AJ and Ian discuss the breaking news as the San Jose Sharks announce general manager Doug Wilson is stepping down. Interim GM Joe Will will remain through the 2021-2022 season. Per Pierre LeBrun, "The Sharks' GM search plans to be extensive, if I had to guess a dozen or so candidates at the outset, varying from former GMs, up and coming AGMs, player agents, former players. And the intention is not to rush the process. Willing to wait to talk to all targeted candidates."

Sharks Power Play would play both Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde this evening providing the initial offense but equalizing goal. Tomas Hertl would score on the Power Play (his 27th of the Season) on a beautiful one timer set up by Brent Burns and Timo Meier. As eluded to, the Sharks PP would be guilty of a high turn over in the offensive zone which sprung Zach Hymen and Ryan Nugget-Hopkins on a 2 on 1 (RNH would pot the GTG). James Reimer held the fort down posting a .917 % save pct. but would fall victim to a Conner McDavid breakaway goal in over time.

The Sharks would start the game’s scoring with a Nick Bonino goal, a tip from a EK65 shot and a great breakout from Noah Gregor. The good mojo would not last long as Vlad Namestnikov would score 25 seconds later. The quick turn of events would be a signal of things to come, the Stars would score the next 3 goals to close the first period all but ending the game in the 1st. Kappie would be chased from the game giving way to a James Reimer relief appearance with him posting .933 pct. Pavelski would of course get the game winning goal and would kill the clock in the corners to seal the victory.

Sharks fall on back to back nights, however they show a lot of fight and some hope emerges between pipes. Kaapo had another stellar night with a %91.3 save percentage with the Hertl line adding to their point totals. Timo now has a career high 31 goals with Hertl passing 30 assists for the 2nd time in his career. Unfortunately the Sharks would be outclassed with Colorado’s talent taking over in the 3rd period with Rantanen and Burajovsky driving the stake in the game.

The Sharks looked snappy in the first period with consistent line rotations and a lot of offensive zone time. That dominance in the possession finally led to a PowerPlay goal from the Second unit set up by Ryan Merkley shot and Scott Reedy Tip-In. The Coyotes would score with 4:44 left in the first period and again the second. Brent Burns would score in the second for the Sharks to tie it up. Unfortunately Jan Jenik has feasted on the Sharks with his 4th goal in the season series giving the Yotes the 3 - 2 goal. Karl Vejmelka would stop 39 of 41 shots to keep the Yotes in the game until the 3 goal eruption of 3rd period.
