TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST #158 W/ ANML MTHR

Austrian modular-head Anml Mthr is deep into the acid game and let’s his 303 speak with some serious distortion work. His relentless pattern repeat and modulation over time lets you truly get into one of the initial ideas of Berlin’s underground sound from the 90s, ment to escape reality and leave out unecessary changes, stereo tricks and decoration.

TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ ALAN OLDHAM

Detroit-born, Berlin-based Alan D. Oldham has been called "Detroit Techno's Renaissance Man" by Muzik Magazine ( UK ). Electronic musician, label owner, remixer, graphic illustrator, and international DJ, Oldham-under his stage name DJ T-1000-does it all.

A lifelong cartoonist and graphic designer, a young Oldham published his own indie comic book "Johnny Gambit" in 1987 to local notoriety. Hired that same year by his childhood friend Derrick May to illustrate several memorable pieces for his new Transmat label, this led to Oldham's very first involvement in the fledgling Detroit Techno scene. More art requests quickly followed, most famously from the Djax-Up-Beats label ( NL ), where his art took center stage for many years (the lone EP that Oldham produced for Djax, under the name Signal To Noise Ratio, brought home a 1991 Detroit Metro Times Music Award for best single in "Detroit Is Burning").

As a DJ, he has played clubs and festivals all over the world, as far afield as Shanghai, China.

As a producer, he has released on Tresor ( DE ), BPitch Control ( DE ), Third Ear Recordings ( UK ), Elypsia Records ( BE ), Finale Sessions ( USA ), Astralwerks ( USA ), and my own labels Generator and Pure Sonik Records, among others.

Experience an artist still driven by the idea that techno is an undeniable force for social change: ABRAX runs a Berlin-based self-titled vinyl imprint with a recently-released 12”.

ABRAX aims to wake people up.

Why?

Because ABRAX believes we are sleeping through our current crises - in the way we gossip, speak in anecdotes and in recitations; the way we indulge in petty daily dramas; and take on borrowed personas - all seemingly to distract ourselves from painful realities.

As an evocative counter-current to a world of numbing submission, ABRAX as an artist and a label aims to wake us up from our slumber.

He runs a self titled-vinyl imprint and divides his time between his music and his work as a Product Designer for Native Instruments.

He's your favorite DJ's favorite producer. Your heroes are his friends. His mentors are legendary figures in dance music. You may not recognize his name-but you should.

Kevin M. Kennedy ( AKA FBK, The Sleep Engineer ) has been creating techno, house and experimenting with sound and space since the early 1990s. His work has been featured on labels as divergent and diverse as Rekids, R-Time Records, Absoloop Orange, Soiree Records International and MDR.

Born in Columbus, Ohio ( exactly 3hr 13 minutes from Detroit ), Kevin had the fortune to meet and work with legendary producers and Djs Daniel Bell and Anthony 'Shake' Shakir, and learn even more from Claude Young jr. and Jay Denham in his formative years-releasing on the Frictional imprint as FBK.

His “Knobs and Switches” EP set dance floors alight and became a 'classic,' recently being reissued by Matt Edwards' R-Tyme imprint 20 years after its initial release.

FBK has never stopped experimenting: His sound is hard yet hypnotic, rooted in minimalism but always focused upon keeping the groove while exploring the spaces in between the notes.

FBK has been performing live since 1994 and Djing since 1988. His live show is energetic, powerful and never fails to disappoint. His minimalism continues with his setup-believing in portability and versatility over anything. His unique DJ sets are filled with unreleased material and edits, always pushing the crowd to dance.

2019 was a banner year for the artist: Seeing his first album, “More Stories From the Future” released on Rekids, along with his first visit to Berlin, performing at Griessmuehle.

2020 sees the artist with new releases on Knotweed, and another album planned for Rekids, along with tunes from his previous album being remixed by Len Faki.

*ABOUT THE MIX*: This is a recording of the first hour of a marathon, nearly 3 hour live performance from FBK, from an undisclosed time and place that only exists when you are there. Like all performances from FBK, it is live, off-the-cuff, and unplanned. Each performance is different, based upon the room, audience, and energy of the universe in that particular locale.
