  • E02 - Tech Lasso Introduces the ITO Coordinators: Scott Moss

In this episode, Mark Schwanz and Chris Hoang discuss with fellow ITO Coordinator Scott Moss his journey into the EdTech world, ways we can be role models to children with understanding the frequency and the use of technology, and practical ways we can integrate media literacy in the classroom.

Scott briefly touches on the following concepts:

    • Media Literacy: the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and create media in a variety of forms.
    • Constructivism: the idea that people actively construct or make their own knowledge, and that reality is determined by your experiences as a learner. Basically, learners use their previous knowledge as a foundation and build on it with new things that they learn.
    • Critical Algorithmic Literacy (CAL): the ability to evaluate, challenge, and construct algorithmically driven media. Critical algorithmic literacy represents a synthesis of computer science and Kellner and Share’s (2019) critical media literacy,
    • Lateral Reading Strategies: how to determine an author's credibility, intent and biases by searching for articles on the same topic by other writers and for other articles by the author you're checking on.

      • E01 - Tech Lasso Introduces the ITO Coordinators: Chris Hoang and Mark Schwanz

In this episode, Mark Schwanz and Chris Hoang share about their journeys into EdTech. Coordinators Laura Wilson and Scott Moss present questions about how they first got into education and gradually shifted to EdTech training and support.

We explore how Mark’s first experience in EdTech was with the Commodore 64 (C64), a popular 8-bit computer that was released in 1982, to his thoughts and beliefs on technology in the classroom and where he believes it will go.

We are introduced to Chris, who was originally resistant to utilizing technology in the classroom, and how his experience in education helped shape his willingness to use technology in the classroom. He shares his experience with the use of Edmodo to using the Flip Model to his interactions with Dr. Catlin Tucker. He also emphasizes the need for equity with technology in education.
