Sure there were the usual searches for players who were making big plays….and recipe searches before the game for wings and dips. Google’s Marta Martinez says the number of new viewers….drawn in by Taylor Swift most likely…had a pretty big impact on the search trends…

“And maybe it is all the Swifties who joined the Super Bowl following Taylor Swift that really turned into this top search topic which was the following question… how many quarters in the Super Bowl? You see that there was a lot of learning, which probably reflects a completely new audience coming into the game which is wonderful in itself.”

In fact, this year’s Super Bowl was the most watched telecast of all time…reaching 123.7 million viewers according to Nielsen.

With the successful launch this month of NASA’s PACE satellite…using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket…scientists will be gathering a new range of data to study the earth’s oceans, air and climate. The technology will enable the team to monitor the color of the earth’s oceans. Why do that? Tom Neumann is the Deputy Director of NASA Goddard’s Earth Sciences Division…

“Those small gradations in ocean color tell us about what’s living in the ocean. Things like plankton or phytoplankton, that form the base of the food web and produce almost half of the oxygen here on earth. PACE will let us monitor ocean health and those microscopic communities in the ocean in a way we’ve never been able to before."
