राऊरकेला के पास दशकों से बंद पड़ी एक खदान जिसने ज़मीन और उसके आसपास सब कुछ तहस नहस कर दिया था। लोगों को इसी तबाही में जीने की आदत हो गई थी लेकिन एक दिन वैज्ञानिकों का एक दल आया और उसने इस जगह का कायाकल्प शुरू किया। इसमें यहाँ की आदिवासी महिलाओं ने भी सहयोग दिया और कुछ ही समय में चमत्कार हो गया। बंजर खदान हरे भरे जंगल में बदल गई। और इस प्रयोग ने कई और खदानों के उद्धार का रास्ता साफ़ कर दिया।

A Story of Transformation: Purnapani

Purnapani was an abandoned limestone mine near Rourkela and it's fate which was accepted by the locals for decades. Until one day a group of scientists arrived and took up the almost impossible task of bringing the wasteland to life. Local tribal women too lent a helping hand and what followed was nothing short of a miracle. Today Purnapani is a template for transformation of other ravaged lands.

अमेरिका में यात्रा के दौरान किताबों की दुकान पर यूँ ही भटकते हुए पहुँचना और फिर एक ऐसी दुनिया से मिलना जिससे उस समय तक मैं अनजान था। पुस्तकों के पन्ने पलटते हुए उन दुकानों में मैंने न सिर्फ पूरी दुनिया की सैर की बल्कि खुद को भी नए सिरे से पहचाना। सेल्फ हेल्प की किताबों से मार्शल आर्ट्स, मार्शल आर्ट्स से बौद्ध धर्म और बौद्ध धर्म से भारतीय संस्कृति तक का सफर इन्हीं पन्नों के गलियारों से होते हुए पूरा किया।

Travelling through a book shop

During the US trip I accidently ventured into a book shop that became my constant sanctuary whenever I was overwhelmed by sensory overload. While skimming through the pages of books with a cup of coffee in my hand I learnt a lot about the world as well as about myself. Self help books led to Martial arts, they in turn led me to Tibetan Buddhism which ultimately led me back to Hindu roots.

लद्दाख में आप लेह के आसपास हों तो आपको बर्फ के स्तूप दिखाई दे जाएंगे। ये स्तूप इंजीनियरिंग के चमत्कार हैं और इन्हें पानी की कमी पूरा करने के लिए बनाया गया है। वीरान बंजर ज़मीन में किसी पानी के स्रोत के पास सर्दियों में फव्वारे की तरह पानी को हवा में उड़ा कर इसे जमने के लिए छोड़ दिया जाता है। यही जमी हुई बर्फ गर्मियों में पिघल कर पानी की बढ़ती किल्लत को कम करने में मदद करती है।

Engineering Marvel: Ice Stupa

Frozen water can and does act as a lifesaver in arid and parched Ladakh. The ingenious way to store water by freezing it during the winters. The ice accumulates to take a shape that's close to the traditional chorten and is named as Ice Stupa by its creator Sonam Wangchuk. While visiting Leh it can be a familiar site only if you are there in early summers.

Deep inside the US state of New Mexico the native Americans find safe havens in their reservations. However, they are just the last remaining outposts where these people try to hold on to their rich heritage and culture in an atmosphere of hyper globalization. Marginalized in the land of their ancestors they are silently slipping into oblivion.
