  • Where are you on your cloud journey, asks IaaSP phoenixNAP, Podcast
phoenixNAP is an infrastructure as a service partner (IaaSP). In this podcast we learn about how phoenixNAP is offering the partner and channel community innovative options such as bare metal servers and bare metal cloud. John Hardie, Vice President of Sales, discusses how partnerships with companies such as Intel, “…a new model that has never existed before.” Hardie tells us about how these new, scalable solutions offer both security and major savings, in a pay-per-use model that shreds the high costs of unused capacity but offers the security of a server that a customer is not sharing. Recorded at The Big Event in Chicago, which featured TBI’s growing technology parted cadre, Hardie discusses how their connection with TBI is opening a whole new set of options from companies in the TBI community.
“Where are you on your cloud journey,” asks Hardie. According to Hardie, it’s a question phoenixNAP suggests that their channel companies ask end user customers. Many people still answer with concerns about security or worries that the cloud might not be robust enough to meet needs. Still others, further along the migration path, relay answers that they are not achieving the developmental freedom and agility they were expecting. We learn how phoenixNAP offers real answers and has ready to go solutions for both.

  • Nynja pulls together workstream flows in quest to offer a better way to work, Podcast
Pandemic, generational and technological tectonic changes have created challenges that many people experience daily: missing files, missed emails, meeting programs and platforms that won’t load, unsupported apps and so on. Disparate technologies have been kit-bashed in such a way as to create awkward moments that, for large firms can be counted in lost productivity, and in smaller firms, per user costs that can sting. “As our founder originally said, there’s got to be a better way,” recalls Jim Berkman, CMO of Nynja. In this podcast we learn about a new way to look at work, or workstream collaboration and how Nynja presents a way to pull things together on a better basis that saves money, labor time and offers improved experiences. Berkman points out that improved workstream collaboration not only saves companies money, but it also helps improve worker and associate satisfaction, a now very critical consideration in a market where employers compete for workers and where gig workers have multiple choices on who to work for or with. This week, during the Channel Partners Conference, Nynja is announcing its channel program. Berkman lays out the opportunity being offered to create partner differentiation, present creative ideas to clients and migrate customers to something not only new, but better.

  • TBI sees ‘remote care’ as a larger vision for telemedicine and UCaaS services for healthcare sector, Podcast
“Unfortunately, healthcare lagged behind in this whole ‘as a service’ kind of movement within in our economy,” says Mark McNeill, Strategic Healthcare Program Manager for TBI. While healthcare often uses some of the most advanced technologies to deliver actual medical care, the way in which the industry has utilized communications has often lagged other comparable industries, especially when it comes to managed services. The special needs of healthcare, with HIPPA regulations, state by state licensing, and many more factors, made this sector more cautious than most in letting go of an on-prem, on-site managed model. In this podcast we learn how this was changing before the pandemic, but how the pandemic sped up acceptance of cloud-based solutions, and telehealth. McNeill points out that as a community, healthcare providers often placed their capital in the state-of-the-art diagnostic or therapeutic equipment while demurring change on administrative connected infrastructure such as communications. The pandemic brought communication inside the circle of care while at the same time regulators waived restrictions to open availability of care during the lock down. The pandemic changed the landscape, making telehealth not only an accepted communications platform, but in many cases, the preferred method.
In this podcast, McNeill makes the case to look beyond terms such as telehealth to a broader vision he labels ‘remote care’. McNeill argues that the new opportunities partners face in serving their healthcare clients includes a wider range of choices, in a hybrid approach. We also learn how TBI proactively uses training and outreach to help partners understand the needs of healthcare providers and how to meet those challenges. McNeill points out that this is a longer sales cycle activity, but the rewards of working on a longer-term scale are major.

  • TBI looks beyond commissions to the whole partner experience, Podcast
“It’s all about recognizing and incentivizing,” says Michelle Tamras, Director of Partner Experience at TBI. For many years, life as a partner in the telecom’s world was all about commissions and other similar incentives to perform. At TBI’s The Big Event, this week, a new program called PGA (Partners Gem Award) was showcased. The first ever Partners Gem Award winners were announced at the show, celebrating a program put in place by Tamras that rewards sales success, but also aims to improve overall partner experiences. The program aims to step up the process of on boarding new partners and to go beyond that to proactively helping partners learn how to close their first sales, and to bring into play the many resources TBI has assembled to improve partner success. In this podcast we learn that Tamras and her team take a highly personalized approach to making sure partners feel supported. The program reflects a broader trend at TBI and the industry, to move away from selling services almost in a commoditized posture, to a more differentiated approach which includes creating customized solutions at the customer level and deeper teamwork at the partner level. Tamras explains that TBI is taking a longer-term strategy with their partners, that still includes focus on achieving sales goals, but also includes a deeper approach to making sure partners are matched up with the right resources and backing so that they in turn offer creative solutions.

  • Following the data enables matching up solutions, TBI Big Event Podcast
“One of our, the engineering teams, main tenets is to follow the data,” says TBI Solutions Engineer, Justin Foxwood. In this podcast, Foxwood takes us behind the scenes on how TBI works client challenges and matches solutions to client needs. TBI has a large portfolio of suppliers, with each one offering a set of solutions. Foxwood and his team maintain a continuously updated understanding of that portfolio, and then work to match up solutions to the needs to of the clients, thereby helping the partner navigate a process of choosing what combination of things to offer. “We are extremely emerging tech focused,” adds Foxwood, noting that along with offering an extensive portfolio of choices, TBI’s posture is to offer partners and clients leading edge solutions. “I want to make sure it’s the right fit,” says Foxwood, noting that as projects engage his team, the search is for the right answer, which sometimes even includes moving a client away from an original plan if that plan doesn’t match up with what can be done, or if there’s a better way to arrive at a solution. We learn how Foxwood’s team continues to work on partner experiences, as part of larger way that TBI manages its partner relationships.

  • WebRTC: A Business Communications Game-Changer, Podcast
You’re using WebRTC (“Real Time Communications”) every day, on your laptop and on your smartphone – it’s what makes voice and video available through your browser. In this podcast, Christian Stredicke, CEO of Vodia, a cloud phone system company, talks about how Vodia is working to use WebRTC to create new communications environments for PBX users. WebRTC eliminates the interoperability issues that have long plagued the VoIP industry, and it’s based on HTTP, which means it's the best network protection currently available, particularly in light of the DDOS attacks during the last quarter of 2021.
“Over the ten, even twenty years, I cannot imagine anything replacing WebRTC,” Christian says. The podcast also discusses the relevance of desktop phones and SIP trunks, how the team at Vodia has found a way to route calls from WebRTC into mailboxes or an IVR, enabling communications between browsers and servers, between browsers and desktop phones, and between browsers and SIP trunks. “I think we’ve achieved ‘choice of device,’” Christian says, “which offers so many possibilities to businesses. This is something unique in the industry, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished.”

  • Enterprise vulnerability to cyberattacks in the cloud requires attention and proactive prevention, Podcast
“Cyberwarfare is not new; it is certainly beginning to intensify with Russia, but we’re seeing the impacts on the enterprise environment,” says Robert Cooper, Managing Director Americas, Wildix. According to Cooper, the current crises has already resulted in high-profile distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks targeting VoIP providers and even impacts on bandwidth availability. In this podcast, Cooper outlines issues that enterprises and their MSP/Channel partners should be aware of and should be planning to prevent or mitigate. VPNs and SBCs, industry wide favorites might, Cooper points out, come with security issue drawbacks. We learn how some cloud communication companies may have data and other sensitive areas of exposure to hostile players. We look at best practices in view of a situation which might escalate. Cooper discusses the safety of choosing solutions that use a ‘secure-by-design platform’ to protect customer data from cyberattacks.
