  • Spawned from the FCC ruling in 2012, shared wireless with 150Mhz of spectrum is making inroads into everyday life via the Carriers, enterprise companies and cloud companies taking advantage of the Cit
The 2012 FCC initiative is discussed by Federated Wireless CEO Iyad Tarazi with Don Witt of The Channel Daily News. This Initiative takes previously exclusive military spectrum and allows the sharing with:

    •    Government
    •    Telecommunications carriers
    •    Enterprise
    •    Average user

The shared spectrum can be said to be positioned in between WiFi and the licensed spectrum providing the shared components of WiFi with the performance and predictability of licensed spectrum. In this model, a user can get assigned a certain range of spectrum, for the time that they need it, the place that they need it and it is protected allowing them to build networks on it without having to acquire a license.

Federated Wireless continues to work on the definition of the spectrum with several organizations, however, there are a few models in test now:

    •    In the home
    •    In the office
    •    Hot spot deployments in outdoor malls
    •    Hospitals
    •    Universities

When included in a laptop, private 4G networks can be established and managed by the enterprise customer. This is another means to provide more control at the local level and offload the internet of some of the heavy lifting.

    About Federated Wireless
Formed in 2012, Federated Wireless, Inc., a subsidiary of Allied Minds (LSE: ALM), provides innovative cloud-based wireless infrastructure solutions to extend the access of carrier networks. Our dynamic Spectrum Access System (SAS) will revolutionize the way in which spectrum is allocated, managed, and optimized. Our unique approach incorporates a neural network of radio sensors allowing interference free access to low-cost, high-quality, licensed spectrum. Our solution breaks down traditional barriers of high cost and exclusive spectrum. Our differentiated business model creates opportunities for more efficient and innovative approaches to spectrum.

  • While initially not heavy, IoT will contribute more and more to the density of the internet traffic magnifying the need for 5G. Qualcomm is working on the IoT and the 5G side to deliver quality mobile
Don Witt of The Channel Daily News speaks with Kiva Allgood, VP of Business Development with Qualcomm, about their installation of IoT on premise in commercial facilities to provide the information needed to accurately allocate convention center for costs, for example, to trade/entertainment show customers. Both have different requirements and can now be billed based on actual usage of utilities, internet, facilities and more. Qualcomm has installed the technology internally to Alpha test the solutions.

Kiva goes on to discuss announcements with GE where they will be implementing their current technology on the Qualcomm campus. Using Verizon for communications, data is collected from the IoT devices for evaluation and future changes.

Billions, maybe trillions of times a day…
We often do what many thought was impossible.

That’s how often people around the world touch something made better by Qualcomm. It could be the smartphone in your pocket, the tablet on your coffee table, that wireless modem in your briefcase… it could even be that navigation system in your car or that action camera strapped to your chest.

Who is Qualcomm, and what do they do? They are engineers, scientists and business strategists. They are from many different countries and speak many different languages. They come from diverse cultures and have unique perspectives. Together, they focus on a single goal—invent mobile technology breakthroughs.

  • Big Data – everyone knows what that is – or do they? Find out for yourself from a Big Data evangelist
If you are a carrier and are looking for insight into how big data may help you, listen to Yifat Kafkafi, Big Data Evangelist at Amdocs, reveal her thoughts to Don Witt of The Channel Daily News from Telecom Reseller about carrier benefits with Big Data. Ultimately, the carrier will want to understand their customers better to trigger actions which will make each customer interaction the most optimal and personalized for that individual customer. When combining the carrier data with third party data, a richer and more detailed profile is created.

Big Data has already set the bar so that call centers are expected to know who the customer is when they call in and should know what the problem or question is that the customer has or will be asking.

While Big Data analytics is still new, the progress that is being made on a daily basis is astonishing. Listen in and find out more from Yifat. You will not be disappointed.
No other industry generates as much volume and variety of data as the communications industry. Service providers need to embrace this new reality to drive efficiencies through their business, ignite new revenues and improve the customer experience, which is the key differentiator in this industry.

Amdocs provides a carrier-grade, big data analytics solution that accumulates, manages and transforms service providers' data assets to deliver real-time, actionable business value.

  • The Digital Transformation of the Phone
    by Gary Audin

Why are there still analog phones in use? Did you know T1 transmission preceded the digital phone? How did we get from analog to digital phones? What is the best wireless technology?  Are all IP phones the same? You should learn the transformation of the phone from analog to digital to understand the wide range of phone types in use today and how to support them.

John Grubb, SVP of Marketing for Cetis, Inc. www.cetis.com and Gary Audin discuss the evolution of the desktop telephone in this EDUcast. The historical development of the phone provides a perspective about why we have so many types in use. John discusses the attributes and capabilities that differentiate telephones such as design, color, USB charging, Bluetooth support, and even single use phones. You may want to view the previous EDUcast, “The Desk Telephone is NOT Dead”.

    What you will learn:

What is a legacy telephone? Are they still in use?
How digital phones are different than legacy sets
Adapting DECT cordless phones for business applications
Many IP phones look like legacy sets, but are different
HD phones deliver an enhanced user experience
    Single-use phones reduce cross-contamination risks
    Emerging telephone features, and functionality

Cetis, Inc., www.cetis.com formed through the 2006 merger of Scitec and TeleMatrix, and the 2009 acquisition of Teledex assets, designs, and manufactures a broad range of analog and VoIP hotel phones. In 1982 they introduced Teledex Diamond Series, the first hotel phones with programmable guest service keys and a customizable faceplate area. Today, the Diamond Series continues to be recognized as the most popular hotel phones in the world. Since 1982, hundreds of Cetis channel partners have installed more than 30 million Cetis hotel phones at 100,000 locations globally.

  • The telecommunications industry is changing in many ways – Including the Cell Towers and how they are powered redundantly
Andrea Laughlin, Director of Marketing at Altergy discusses the new emerging hydrogen fuel cell technology that is powering the cell Towers across the United States and around the world with Don Witt of The Channel Daily News from Telecom Reseller while at the CTIA show in Las Vegas.

With 8 million watts of power already deployed, the technology has already proven itself and in many cases saved the day during disasters like Hurricane Sandy and the Napa Valley earthquake. Providing the Carriers and Telcos a very cost effective alternative to the legacy power back up solutions, Altergy is leading the effort to turn the tower power green with hydrogen Cell power.

Changing the way the world gets its power

Altergy has broken through traditional technology and cost barriers to deliver the most cost-effective and reliable backup power solutions available. Altergy’s zero-emission proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells deliver the quality on-demand power and ride-through capabilities required for telecommunications, broadband, data centers, traffic signaling, homeland security, and other essential 24/7 operations.

Altergy is the first and only company to cost-effectively mass-produce industrial-strength fuel cells that produce no emissions. While the U.S. EPA increases the regulations on diesel engine emissions in an effort to address climate change, Altergy has revolutionized fuel cell design to offer back-up power solutions that virtually eliminate pollution.

The world has been powered the same old ways for far too long. It’s time for radical change … like clean, safe, affordable power on demand… how’s that for a new reality?
