  • The Network as a Total Resource
Innovation is a constant requirement for network providers. So is supporting business continuity. These are great traits but the provider must also deliver high quality service to support real time communications. It is also important that there exist powerful and easy to use APIs. You need to consider how a provider migrates to SDN. A good network provider should have a holistic not component view of their network infrastructure and operation.

Brett Scorza, CIO and EVP at www.inteliquent.com speaks with Gary Audin in this podcast recorded at INCOMPAS 16. The podcast covers the inteliquent approach to customer support as a national voice and messaging provider. The growth of their services has three focuses, cost, redundancy, and scalability. The discussion also focuses on the management and growth of network capacity to ensure that there will be adequate resources for their customers even during natural and manmade disasters.

Inteliquent www.inteliquent.com provides a comprehensive suite of innovative voice services. They have established a strong market presence by creating a competitive tandem network that is used by the largest wireless, cable, CLEC, and long distance carriers in the U.S.

Inteliquent's voice services include streamlined SIP interconnection for domestic and international long distance traffic. They also offer terminating and originating access that supports billions of minutes of traffic each month.

  • NOC on premises or NOCaaS?”
You operate a network operation center (NOC). Can you staff the NOC 24 hours a day every day? What happens when the network problem is beyond your staff’s knowledge? Where do you go for specialized NOC technologists? What will happen when you encounter SDN and NFV? You cannot afford to shop around in real time for the technologists to solve your problems. This is when NOC as a Service (NOCaaS) becomes attractive.

Hal Baylor, Director, Business Development for INOC www.inoc.com and Gary Audin recorded this podcast at INCOMPAS 16. The podcast covers a range of NOC issues and how to resolve them. Hal points out that there a few detailed books on NOCs and little information exchange among NOC installations. The discussion focuses on the challenges and weaknesses found in most NOCs whether at the enterprise or provider.

INOC’s US-based Network Operations Center www.inoc.com team is well trained to manage incidents and is mentored via continuous review so they become skilled experts in the business. The INOC NOC platform securely and seamlessly connects to a customer’s infrastructure, providing the most advanced event detection and efficient workflow management. INOC’s network, server, and application monitoring services provide detailed metrics and visibility, allowing the INOC monitoring team to react quickly and troubleshoot effectively.

  • VoIP is NOT Regulated; WRONG
You have thought that VoIP services are exempt from regulation. Not true. The FCC and states do require forms to be completed when a provider offers VoIP services. Some Over the Top (OTT) providers like Skype are exempt. These OTTs offer voice services that avoid regulation.

If buy VoIP services from a reseller, do you know if they are operating properly? Whether the reseller is an agent of a provider or selling a white label service, their compliance requirement forms could be incorrect or non-existent. In either case, the reseller could be forced to terminate your service with little or no notice.

This is what Thomas Forte, Director of Business Development for Technologies Management Inc. www.tminc.com and Gary Audin discuss in this podcast recorded at INCOMPAS 16. VoIP service providers need to complete FCC forms 477 Resources and 499 Filer Database. Some states also have filing requirements. As an enterprise exploring VoIP services, you should ensure that the provider you are considering is compliant with FCC and state requirements.

Technologies Management, Inc. www.tminc.com offers consulting services on regulatory compliance and competitive developments in the telecommunications industry. Services include outsource compliance/USF report preparation and filing, forms 499 and 477 preparation and filing, domestic and international certification, and tariff management. TMI also provides competitive rate and regulatory monitoring, and research.

  • Mitigating Network Failures
Redundancy is not diversity. Diversity is redundancy. You have one or more network providers. Do they share the same cable path? If so, the loss of one may also be the loss of the other provider because they are not geographically going over a different physical path to your destinations. Network diversity is necessary because networks fail, fail due to cable cuts, fires, accidents, weather disasters, and negligence.

Bill Hynes, CEO and Founder of United Fiber and Data www.ufd.com and Gary Audin discuss the lack of geographic network diversity that exists with some carriers. This podcast was recorded at INCOMPAS 16.

United Fiber & Data (UFD) provides a superior alternative for fiber networking and broadband solutions. As a privately owned and operated network, it is strategically positioned west of the North East Corridor's traditional route. UFD is diverse to single points of failure between New York City and Northern Virginia. Their data centers offer a cost-effective delivery of ISP bandwidth and carrier interconnects for their customers. UFD’s hands-on Professional Services Group offers a complete suite of solutions that has the backing of an owner-operated, highly redundant, and secure infrastructure.

  • Oracle ERA I (Individual) Research Validates the Individual Experience & Mobility trend for Service Providers, Enterprise and Employees
Doug Suriano, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Communications, discusses the ERA I research released today with Don Witt of The Channel Daily News by TelecomReseller.  With input from more than 300 C-level executives covering 10 industries, the research evaluates the emergence of the ERA I with 84% of executives saying their organization has experienced a trend toward customers wanting a more individualized experience and 70% experiencing similar trend from employees.

Sixty-Six percent of the executives surveyed indicate that not having these features is affecting their ability to compete. Using whatever device they have at any point in time anywhere
Placing orders and getting it fulfilled
    More intuitive online experience

The research also asked leaders at these organizations to:

Grade themselves on how well they are offering highly individualized customer experiences, with only 33% of communications respondents giving themselves an “A”
Estimate the revenue gain if they offered highly individualized experiences
Identify the important link between cloud-based IT solutions and their organizations ability to deliver individualized employee and customer experiences
Weigh in on the missed opportunities for customer and employee individualization
Share the greatest opportunities and obstacles the communications industry faces in delivering more individualized content, products, and/or services
