Climate Change

And as a consequence of climate change in Chile, the intense storm system that affected the central and southern regions of the country left four people dead and one missing, in addition to hundreds of people affected, thousands of homes damaged, and widespread power outages across several regions.

Meanwhile, in Algeria, the wildfires reported in the north of the country have left six people dead, while emergency crews continue battling dozens of active fires.

Venezuela's Acting President, Delcy Rodriguez, handed over more than 240 fully equipped homes to families affected by the June 24th earthquakes. 

In addition, the president announced that from July through December, 4,000 homes will be delivered each month, while work is underway to restore more than 10,000 homes across the country.

Palestine

Palestinian authorities are denouncing an increase in attacks by Israel against Palestinian journalists in recent months. 

During the first six months of 2026, 467 incidents targeting media workers have been recorded, according to the Palestinian Journalists' Union. 

Yemen

And in Yemen, massive demonstrations have been held to express support for the armed forces' decision to impose a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia, citing its responsibility for the hostilities and for the attacks on the international airport.

Peru

At this hour in Peru, rescue and relief operations continue following the 5.5 magnitude earthquake that struck the Junín region, about 300 km east of Lima.

The quake left at least 6 people dead, 30 injured, around 300 people displaced, about 50 homes destroyed and hundreds more damaged, while the government prepares to declare a state of emergency in the affected area.

Venezuela

Venezuela is strengthening relief efforts in the areas impacted by the double earthquake, with the reconstructions of buildings and the removal of debris. 

So far, about 6,500 people have been rescued and the death toll has exceeded 5,000. 

FIFA World Cup

And across Spain, thousands of fans celebrated with immense joy and pride the country's FIFA World Cup victory, after defeating Argentina 1-0, filling streets and public squares with songs, flags, hugs and celebrations that lasted for hours.

Meanwhile, in Argentina, the defeat left fans overcome with sadness and disappointment, in an atmosphere of restrained emotion, silence and recognition of the national team effort.

91% of Venezuelans believe that the permanent lifting of sanctions against the country will accelerate the recovery following the June 24th earthquakes, according to a survey. 

The nationwide poll conducted this July by Interlaces revealed also that 6% disagree while 3% do not know or did not answer.

China - World

A survey by the Pew Research Center reveals that this year, a large part of the world has shifted toward having a more favorable opinion of China than of the European Union and the US, as is the case in Mexico and Canada. 

The poll indicates that this notable change is driven in part by tensions between the Trump administration and Washington's allies. 

Argentina - FIFA World Cup

And Argentina became a finalist in the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating England 2-1.

On Sunday, Argentina, winner of the last World Cup, will play Spain in the final, while on Saturday, France and England will face each other for third place.

Colombia 

Colombian President Gustavo Petro said that he will not attend the inauguration of Abelardo de la Espriella on August 7th. Petro also added that he will not shake his hand.

He said that the far-right politician knows why, because the election was fraudulent, he alleged, and announced that on Thursday, he will file new legal challenges accompanied by evidence. 

Iran

Iran issued a serious warning this Wednesday stating that it could block other key energy corridors after the US reactivated its military blockade on the Strait of Hormuz. 

On the military front, Iran launched a third wave of missile and drone attacks against the US bases, and also interests in neighbouring Gulf countries such as Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates.

FIFA

And the FIFA World Cup already has its first finalist, Spain, after defeating France 2-0. 

This Wednesday, Argentina and England face off, with the winner advancing to the final.

The government of Venezuela announced that it will deliver the first 200 homes next week to those affected by the earthquakes. 

Acting President Delcy Rodríguez has also begun direct diplomatic efforts to request the release of Venezuela's gold in order to establish a fund dedicated exclusively to reconstruction.

Colombia

In Colombia, President Gustavo Petro ordered that no military base be used for the swearing-in ceremony of far-right politician Abelardo de la Espriella on August 7. 

Petro emphasized that the transfer of power is governed by the laws of the Republic and the Constitution, which establish that the President is sworn in before Congress in a full session. 

Iran - Middle East

And Iran has intensified its attacks against several Gulf states following the U.S. bombings, which included Qatar. 

Meanwhile, Iran has once again announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, causing oil prices to surge.

Venezuela's Acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, toured the facilities of the Maiquetía International Airport, the country's main airport located on the outskirts of Caracas, to oversee the recovery work following the damage caused by the June 24th earthquakes. 

During the inspection, the Acting President announced the activation of a comprehensive plan for the gradual resumption of commercial flights.

Brazil

In Brazil, prosecutors supported the questioning of far-right senator Flavio Bolsonaro after finding evidence of defamation against President Lula da Silva.

Prosecutors concluded that, in messages posted on the X-Platform, the son of the imprisoned former president Jair Bolsonaro published false and malicious accusations against Lula aimed at damaging the president's reputation. 

FIFA World Cup

And at the FIFA World Cup, Spain advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Portugal 1-0. Belgium also advanced by defeating the United States 4-1, eliminating the tournament's last remaining host nation.

Venezuela's Acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, announced the creation of a specialized military unit dedicated to responding to emergencies and natural disasters. 

The announcement was made during the ceremonies marking the 215th anniversary of Venezuela's independence. 

The officers assigned to the new unit will be deployed to temporary shelters, damaged infrastructure and healthcare facilities to provide both logistical and humanitarian assistance to disaster victims.

United States

In the United States, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed concern over what he described as the possible arrival of communism in the country.

Johnson said that since Social Democrat Solan Mamdani was elected mayor of New York, whom President Donald Trump has labeled as communist, many more candidates like Mamdani have begun running for Congress across the country. 

He described them as Marxists and communists, saying they pose a serious threat to the American system of government.

FIFA World Cup

And in the round of 16 of the FIFA's World Cup, Norway defeated Brazil 2-1, while England beat Mexico 3-2, sending both teams through the quarterfinals.

Colombia - elections

In Colombia, the president of the National Electoral Council confirmed that a vote-by-vote recount of the ballots cast by Colombians residing abroad in the second round of the presidential elections will not be carried out. 

The electoral authority reported that the vote count will continue to be based on the official records submitted by consulates during the eight days of overseas voting, despite allegations of alleged vote-buying and corruption by parties linked to the far right.

Venezuela

Venezuela's Acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, signed Strategic International Cooperation Memorandums on Monday aimed at enhancing the country's comprehensive development. 

The leader did so in Caracas with representatives of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, CAF, an institution with which Venezuela maintains technical and financial cooperation agreements, as well as strategic partnerships in various areas. 

United States - Iran

And the United States will allow Iran to sell its oil in U.S. dollars after decades of restrictions, including on American buyers, representing a significant shift in the sanctions policy maintained by the White House for decades.

The Treasury Department issued a general license that exempts certain restrictions for 60 days, while talks continue between the two countries to reach broader agreements on regional security and nuclear issues.

In Colombia, candidate Ivan Cepeda announced the challenge of 33,000 polling stations across the country and moved the presidential decision of the second round to the official vote count. 

Cepeda framed the decision by pointing to the narrowest margin recorded in any run-off election in Colombian electoral history, making it clear that once the official count and the corresponding verifications are completed, he will respect the final result.

Bolivia

In Bolivia, the right-wing neoliberal president Rodrigo Paz and the Bolivian Workers' Central signed an agreement aimed at ending the crisis triggered by nearly two months of protests. 

Despite this, the pact has failed to close the social divide, as farming sectors in La Paz and Cochabamba continue their protest actions, making it evident that the demands of the Bolivian people have not been yet fully addressed. 

Iran - United States

And the government of Iran points to the United States as directly responsible for the Israeli bombings in Lebanon, which have continued, and warns that it will take the necessary measures in response to the situation.

Talks between Iran and the US regarding the Memorandum of Understanding concluded in Switzerland, with both sides agreeing to continue negotiations over the next 60 days through diplomatic channels in a future round.
