  • Ep 33 Critical Black Excellence
    Hey ya’ll hey!
Thanks for tuning into Episode 33 of Tellemtiptoldyou—"Critical Black Excellence.” On today’s episode, we discuss the new film Queen and Slim. We interrogate some of the media coverage of the film itself and of the writer’s perceived missteps regarding the film’s ending, casting call, and her description of her own Blackness.
In discussing the Queen and Slim we hit upon the responsibility some of us believe Black artists have to their communities in a time of oppression fatigue (including Zimmerman’s recent lawsuit against the Martin family and attorney.
Stress relief is critical and we discuss how me must be strategic about our self care—especially given the current climate.

  • Ep32 Kwanzaa In November
    Hey ya’ll hey!
Thanks for tuning into Episode 32 of Tellemtiptoldyou—"Kwanzaa in November.” On today’s episode, we get to build on Kanye’s continued foolishness as well as that of the NFL’s failed attempted manipulation of our Brother Colin Kaepernick. The walk away: when you recognize your own value, it’s much harder for someone to manipulate you into things that aren’t fulfilling to you. I couldn’t help but to also shout our Eric Reid for showing us what true friendship looks like.
I also share my 2019 birthday reflections with you. I give you three things I’ve learned in 2019 that I truly believe will make my 2020 (and your 2020!) the best years of your life.

  • Episode 31 Black Women We Need You - 11:11:19, 4.11 PM
    Hey ya’ll hey!
Thanks for tuning into Episode 31 of Tellemtiptoldyou. On today’s episode, I rant about Kanye’s disingenuous appeal to Black Christianity as repeating R. Kelly’s same move in trying to garner our forgiveness. I argue that we did not grant Chrisette Michelle (nor any other Black woman) such forgiveness on a large scale.
Such disparity is discussed as a mark of misogynoir marks a couple of other things discussed this week from TI’s coercion of his daughter to have her hymen examined yearly to the foolish trolling we’ve suffered about the Harriet film.
Speaking of the Harriet film, you should go see it and you should absolutely download my reflection guide to use to discuss the film with your families.
I look forward to your reviews on this episode and invite you to email me about your thoughts!

Using the current issues surrounding Amber Guyger's murder conviction, Atatiana Koquice Jefferson's death in Texas, and Kanye West's appearance at Howard's Homecoming, Tip argues that we must be more strategic and disciplined in our study of Black history in fighting for contemporary freedoms.
