It's time to talk about tennis rules! And, specifically, more talk about hindrances! In this episode, I'm answering another question from a Tennis Quick Tips listener on hindrances. And I think you're going to want to know the answer to this question because I'm going to tell you just what I think you should do when your opponent is moving during your serve.

So I'm still stuck at home and I bet a lot of you are too. But I'm still working on keeping my tennis sharp and focused by doing some at home, Do-It-Yourself drills that I can do by myself right around my house.
I'm using low compression red and orange tennis balls for these drills but all of these can be done with regular tennis balls too. So listen in for my favorite DIY at home tennis drills.

In this episode, you're going to get more tips on doubles strategy than you could ever have thought possible. That's because I'm talking to my friend Mehrban Iranshad, the host of the Tennis Files podcast and he also hosts the annual Tennis Summit, a huge online tennis instruction event. Mehrban agreed to come on Tennis Quick Tips to give us his very best doubles strategies tips. So in this episode, Mehrban gives us not 10, but 11 awesome tips for doubles strategy. And at the end of the episode, I give you all of the information you need about Tennis Summit 2020. You can find out all of that info and grab your free (yes, FREE!) ticket to the Summit right here:

Are you stuck at home right now? Yeah, me too. But that doesn't mean I've given up on getting better at tennis. Not at all! I am doing all kinds of things to improve my tennis game and you can too. Because just because we can't get out on the tennis court right now, doesn't mean there aren't things we can do in the comfort and safety of our own homes to get better at the game we all love so much. So, in this episode of Tennis Quick Tips, I'm going to tell you what I'm doing right now to play better tennis without playing tennis.
And if you're interested in the Home Tennis Max course I talk about in this episode, here's that link:

One of the things that makes tennis a unique sport is that, in most of the matches we play, our opponent is also our umpire. The one person who has a definite interest in having calls go against us is often the very person making those calls. And because of this, because in the vast majority of our matches, there is an absence or a virtual absence of any on-court officials, cheating in tennis is very easy. All you have to do is say "out," and you can win the point. And win it with almost no penalty for this unethical behavior.
So what can we do to deal with cheaters in tennis? How can we try to get our opponents to follow the rules? That's what we're talking about in this episode - how to deal with tennis cheaters.

If you have listened to past episodes of Tennis Quick Tips, then you already know how much I love to talk about the rules and matches and how that all works. But one thing I've never really talked about, for some unknown reason, is the difference between officiated and unofficiated tennis matches. And specifically, how the rules can be a little different depending on whether you are playing an officiated or an unofficiated match. So in this episode we'll get into the difference between officiated and unofficiated matches and why you should care.

Hey all! As I’m recording this episode, it’s March 13, 2020 and things in the world are disconcerting, to put it mildly. So because this is having a big impact not just on our lives, but on our tennis lives, I’m doing a super quick podcast episode here about COVID-19, otherwise known as the Corona Virus. You’ll notice there’s no music and none of the other fancy stuff I usually do in my podcasts. I just wanted to put this together quickly because I think this is an important topic for all of us.
The fact is that the threat of Corona Virus is quite serious. We all need to do what we can to prevent the spread and “flatten the curve” and if that means not playing tennis for a while, then that’s what I’ll do. But for now, I’m still playing. And while I’m not a doctor, and nothing I say here should be taken as medical advice, I do have a few safety precautions I’m observing to hopefully keep myself and those around me healthy. And I want to let you know what I’m doing so you can think about what you might do if you’re still able to get out and play some tennis. Again, this is not medical advice, just some common sense tips from one tennis player to another.
So listen in for my tips or health precautions that I think tennis players can observe to stay health and to help protect the health of others.

Well, here's something I've never done before. I'm going back into the Tennis Quick Tips archives to bring you a "best of" episode! Today, I'm going all the way back to Episode 3 of Tennis Quick Tips, which was called "What To Do When You Win the Spin." And I'm going back to this episode because I not only had a listener recently ask me about this topic, but it also came up in a tennis match I just played.
Now, I've never done this before, replay a previous episode. And that's because I have a LONG LIST of things I still have never talked about and want to talk about on this podcast. But I decided to re-listen to this episode, thinking I would update it and add some new info, but it turns out that Episode 3 pretty much did a good job of analyzing this episode and explaining what I think you should do when you win the spin.
So, listen in to what I had to say way back in Episode 3 and then I'll give you my thoughts on what I do now when this comes up in my matches. Here it is - a blast from the Tennis Quick Tips past, what to do when you win the spin!

Well, I’m still talking about the Australian Open! I’m sure I’ll bring up that time I went to the Australian Open in this podcast every chance I get. Anyway, a super critical match that happened while I was there was the quarterfinal match between Roger Federer and up-and-comer Tennys Sandgren from the USA. During this match, Federer performed an absolute miracle, saving - get this - seven match points and ultimately winning the match in five sets. It was truly amazing!
So what can you and I get from this Houdini-like performance? In this episode, I'll tell you about what I saw and learned from this match. So keep listening!

Let's talk about the Australian Open! Again! I told you I wasn't going to be able to let this go. In my last episode, I gave you all of my tips for making the most of any professional tennis tournament you might attend. But in this episode, I'm giving you some completely different tips. I'm going to let you know all of the tennis lessons I learned at the Australian Open. And the good news is, these are the kinds of lessons that regular ol' recreational players like you and me can apply to our games to help us play better tennis.
