Tenx9

Inspired by NAIDOC week - which celebrates Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders' achievements - our friends at tenx9 Adelaide hosted stories linked to the experience of Indigenous People with the theme “It’s never black & white”. Here are three: Dana who gives thanks for her Chinese grandparents; Lauren who realised she needed to learn before questioning; Kurt who knew so much about loss. Dani & Mel are your hosts. (Please be aware - these stories feature racism, addiction & suicide.)

No one gets out of this alive - the theme was Pets on January 16th in the Black Box in Belfast. Here are two more stories from that evening: Paul Hutchinson explores the dark side of life & death with Lucky the cat; Richard O’Leary remembers childhood companion Larry the hen with much fondness while Paul pays a brief homage to Chequer the kitten.

There are four tenx9s currently running in Australia (2019) and here are three stories from our friends in Adelaide when the theme was Travel in Sept 2017: Mel Lambert & Dani Madsen kick off with an Acknowledgement of Country before Mel tells her story of a friendship that endured many travels; Ben Roberts tells of a walk in the hills that changed his life; Lachlan Marshall on family travels.

Here is one from the archives: Comedy Night Sept 2016 & our first ever recording. Three stories: Tori McKinstry & her beloved granny with an ABC of swear words; Eric Thompson who found love with under-cooked lentils & cheesecake soup; a reprise of Aíne McParland & the joys of the confessional. Pádraig & Paul are your hosts.

Cats, dogs, rabbits & a crow - four stunning stories on the theme of Pets told in a packed Black Box on 16 January 2019: Sarah Hughes who remembers her Precious 30 years on; Iain McLean whose dog helped the family survive a bomb attack; Paul Whittington who - despite his surname - considered the “£25 option” for Molly the cat; Lydia Searle who is sure her rabbit is in pet Heaven. Paul & Padraig are the hosts with some pet tales of their own - yes, including a crow.

Recorded in March 2017, here are three stories of secrets & lies: Malachi O’Doherty and the secret of how “Pipe” got his nickname; Jane Searle on the family secret that had almost gone to the grave; Richard O’Leary and the one secret he kept from his mum. Pádraig & Paul were the hosts in the Black Box, Belfast.

Patricia Hughes made her tenx9 debut with this story at our Christmas evening on !9 December 2018…proof that a pet is not just for Xmas.

Two stories on this bonus Pod: Paul Doran & the march in Derry that changed everything & Sean Mullin who witnessed events in Hebron that changed him forever. Recorded at The Accidental Theatre in Belfast on December 9th. (This has been uploaded to replace a previous version with some technical issues.) An occasional F-bomb.

Amazing true stories for our Christmas celebration on December 19 in the Black Box in Belfast. Here are Helen McClements who goaded the weather gods ahead of her winter wedding & Jane Searle who had the Brits for dinner on Xmas Day 1970. (This has been republished due to technical issues) There is the odd F-bomb.

Father and son Paul and Jake Bond told a story each at our Belfast-themed evening in November. Jake was a first-timer with a story of infatuation while Paul told the story of Aunt Minnie from Belfast and an actual Mercedes.
