What were you doing at 19 years old? For Carter Fehr and Jordan Kersten, the answer is “working full-time as an OTR driver.” But wait—don’t you have to be 21 for that? Yes—unless you’re part of the FMCSA Safe Driver Apprenticeship Program (SDAP, for short).
With SDAP, under-21 drivers can cross state lines and drive over the road. In the past, our industry would lose high school graduates to other skilled trades, but if successful, this program could open trucking as a career path for young people!
So, why did these guys choose trucking at such a young age? What was the training like? Are there any restrictions on what they can or can’t do? How did they adjust to the trucking lifestyle? Carter and Jordan have the answers in today’s exchange, along with a fresh perspective on the career of a professional driver. Press play and enjoy!

“How many kids want to go to work with their parents?” Well, according to Peg Balducci and Michaela Mogged, it’s actually a tremendous blessing. From early morning commutes to walks around the pond, working together at Nussbaum is a cherished opportunity to bond as mother and daughter.
Known for their servant hearts and calming phone presence, Peg and Michaela enjoy helping our drivers navigate day-to-day challenges. HR/Safety conversations aren’t always fun, but they’ve found that a little compassion goes a long way. At home, they’re busy managing households and being intentional in motherhood and grandparenting. The work never ends for a mom, but staying organized, practicing patience, and taking some quiet time keeps the ship headed in the right direction.
In today’s exchange, Peg and Michaela reflect on their careers at Nussbaum, balancing the demands of work and motherhood, and the traits they admire in one another. (Plus, a few embarrassing stories—like how Michaela is turning into her mother, and Peg’s recent escapades on the ski slopes). Press play and enjoy this heartwarming conversation!

By day, he’s clearing brush and herding cattle under the hot sun. By night, he’s busy dispatching for Nussbaum—900 miles from our terminal in the little town of Bedias, Texas. (Or, “God’s country” as Oscar affectionally refers to it). Life couldn’t be better.
Granted, Texas is dry, full of ornery shrubs, and insects that want to kill you. But Oscar loves being near his sister and working the local ranches. He’s also quite fond of the warm weather and cowboy culture! In today’s exchange, Oscar shares about getting into transportation, working after-hours at Nussbaum, and life in the best state in America. Plus, a sweet story of proposing to his fiancé at the “I Love You So Much” mural in Austin. Press play and enjoy!

It’s all in a day’s work for Heather and Tianne, our faithful and fearless front desk ladies. As Tianne says, “you just never know what you’ll see in a day.”
Some days, they just laugh – I mean, how could these people not notice all the Nussbaum signs??? Other times, they get a disgruntled caller with an axe to grind. But more often than not, it’s a positive caller praising our drivers or sharing a story of how our trailer graphics impacted them.
Whatever the situation, these ladies are the warm and welcoming face of Nussbaum, always greeting visitors with a smile and demonstrating our culture from the moment you step through the door. Today, they’re “stepping through” the studio doors to share the Tall Tales, Memorable Moments, and Hilarious Happenings from the front desk. Press play and enjoy!

For over a century, The Baby Fold has shepherded vulnerable children in Bloomington-Normal and beyond. What began as a home for orphans in the early 1900s (during the years of “Orphan Trains”) now serves families across central Illinois through academic, in-home, and post-adoption services.
In today’s exchange, Dayton chats with two of the organization’s senior leaders – Clete Winkelmann, President & CEO, and Sam Guillory, Vice-President of Development & Public Relations. They answer questions like “how did The Baby Fold begin?” “How is TBF currently serving our communities?” “Why do strong families matter?” and “How do we build healthy, resilient families?”
With over 200 staff, dedicated volunteers, and deep roots in Bloomington-Normal, The Baby Fold is on a mission to build positive futures while reflecting Christian principles. Press play for an inspiring episode!

“It was like the end of the world.” That’s how Kenol Aurelus, now a Professional Driver for Nussbaum, describes the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010. It was an unforgettable day – especially since he was right next to the Presidential Palace when the ground started shaking!
Once nominated as the Best Photographer in all of Haiti, Kenol was holding his camera when the earthquake hit. In the aftermath, he captured what would become world-renowned photographs of the devastation. He even met CNN anchor Anderson Cooper!
In today’s exchange, Kenol recounts his story of growing up in Haiti, becoming a photographer, taking pictures for the President of Haiti, the earthquake, and his transition to the U.S. It’s an incredible journey that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

In 2015, Nussbaum’s very first trailer artwork – “Celebrating Faith & Family” – hit the road. In the nine years since, we’ve released twelve additional graphics, including “Forgiveness Brings Freedom,” “Love Above All,” and most recently, “There is Hope in Troubled Times.” But you may be wondering…..why so many designs? Where did these ideas come from? Why use trailers?
Believe it or not, the story begins in 1990, when Brent Nussbaum (now our CEO) left the family business he would eventually run. In today’s exchange, Brent discusses how that decision introduced him to the world of trailer graphics and eventually led him back to Nussbaum. He also shares how a Nussbaum driver and the book Loving Monday transformed his view of business and inspired him to make Nussbaum a ministry. But the story doesn’t end there…….
We’re also joined by Brent Hanson, Founder of The Moriah Foundation. His story and ministry played a crucial role in creating the various graphics you see on the road today. Together, Brent and Brent answer questions like, “Where did the slogans come from?” “How did they go from idea to finished artwork?” And “Why are they so impactful to viewers?”
Press play for a very special and inspiring episode of Terminal Exchange!

Rewind to age 6, and you’d find Addis Coffman planting crops, tending livestock, and caring for her young brother near the village of Gimbichu, Ethiopia. Fast forward to 2024, and she’s an Accounting Specialist at Nussbaum in Bloomington, Illinois! Needless to say, a lot has happened in between.
In today’s exchange, Addis shares a personal testimony of her adoption, transition to the US, and overcoming struggles that threatened to define her. That’s where the second adoption story comes in - and where Addis found a new identity and purpose in life. Her reflections are a touching reminder of God’s faithfulness and “mercies in disguise.”
