In rare (and risky) fashion and form, Sean and Chris enter into a group discussion regarding leadership with their wives, Entrepreneur Sandra Christian and Texas Emerging Leaders Executive Director Elizabeth Sanger.

Sandra Christian is owner of Skyline Canopies and solo entrepreneur extraordinaire. Originally from Sweden, Sandra received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Swedish and Math and was on track to becoming a teacher. Instead, she accepted a Nanny position with a family in Boston. Afterward, Sandra intended to return to Sweden and resume a career in teaching, but fate - and love - intervened. She followed her heart and her military man to Texas, tying the knot in 2012. After a few years working in retail, starting a running club, and her husband's military career, she found herself consistently promoting other local brands and organizations and recognized the need for promotional materials and displays. From there, Skyline Canopies LLC was born from Sandra's desire to provide others with high-quality, affordable products and her desire to serve her community and network.

In this episode, Sean interviews Chris Sanger, our current Chief Creative Officer and former City Councilman where they discuss leadership, Chris’s first-hand political experience, and what it takes to emerge in leadership. 

Chris Sanger has been a political candidate 3 times, beginning his journey in politics at the age of 23 when he won with 69% in a Republican primary election for the Iowa House of Representatives on the Southside of Des Moines, Iowa. In 2010 he received 42,000 votes tying for 2nd in a 3-way primary for Iowa Secretary of State. After some time off from politics and moving to Texas, Chris ran for Alvin City Council At-Large Position 2 against a longtime incumbent and ended up winning the seat by fourteen votes.

Chris’s mission throughout his political career was to bring awareness to the grassroots concerns of his constituents, to bring more ideas to the forefront, and inspire more people to get involved in state and local politics. By sharing his story, Chris’s hope is that it will help others emerge in leadership and be inspired by his humble beginnings which is a testament of what can happen if you give it your all and never give up.
