A rift in the space-time continuum freezes the Enterprise and a Romulan warbird in battle... or so it looks to Picard, Data, Troi and LaForge from the outside. When they dig a little deeper, they find all that timey-wimey stuff may not be exactly as it seems. Plus, the Enterprise blows up real good. Timescape goes into the Mission Log.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
The original Planet of the Apes is a classic in science fiction filmmaking and it took been ten years to recover from Tim Burton's disastrous remake before screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver found a way to reboot the series with a prequel to the original masterpiece.
In this episode of The 602 Club host Matthew Rushing is joined by Brandon-Shea Mutala to talk about Rise of the Planet of the Apes. We discuss our experiences and expectations, franchises, control, love and hubris, the power of betrayal, the cast, bringing the apes to life, the soundtrack, ending and our ratings.

Westworld and the Holodeck.
A state-of-the-art entertainment complex where you can live out your wildest dreams, surrounded by people who look, sound, and even feel like flesh-and-blood. The sixth-season TNG episode “A Fistful of Datas” tips its (cowboy) hat to the 1973 film Westworld, in which a robot gunslinger runs amok in a Wild West fantasyland, terrorizing the hapless players whose fun day out has just turned into a nightmare.
In this episode of Primitive Culture, hosts Tony Black and Duncan Barrett discuss the connections between Westworld’s amoral theme park and Star Trek’s holodeck. We consider the risks human beings will take for excitement, the moral cost of creating artificial beings for exploitation in games of sex and violence, and whether such complex systems can ever truly be kept under control.

The Cloud Minders.
Kirk has a history of getting involved in the domestic disputes of other worlds and trying to set the locals straight. That’s why the little Federation clean-up ship is always trailing the Enterprise. Of course, when the planet in question is a member of the Federation, is refusing to do its part to help another member world, and is torturing its own people, it’s a lot easier to justify stepping in. That’s what happened in the third-season episode “The Cloud Minders.”
In this episode of The Ready Room, host C Bryan Jones is joined by Zachary Fruhling, Amy Nelson, and Justin Oser to discuss this story of a city in the sky, cave dwellers, the stratification of society, and deadly gas. Along the way we debate what it means to be part of the United Federation of Planets, how laws might apply to such a vast political organization, and why Spock is so flirty when his head is in the clouds.
In our news segment, we examine Mike Okuda’s new design for NASA’s flight operations emblem, talk about the winners of the Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE, and explore what it will take to make a Star Trek-style medical tricorder a reality.
