Paul Ryan CEO of The Auxilia Group runs a 'dating agency' for businesses and he wants more professional women on his books. Listen to find out what he's actually looking for, and how you can earn up to €2,000 a day. He also has a hypnotist for hire. If your business wants the services of a hypnotist, we at That Great Business Show would like to hear from you - 'cos we have got to know why??
A keen marathon runner Paul's 'hire in a heartbeat' is sub-2 hour marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge
Siobhán Ní Chofaigh is boss at an intriguing Galway based company, Mint Tek Circuits. Her small (they're hiring!), but perfectly formed company, will take your design (software or hardware) and turn it into a reality, and for far less cost than others in the field. Siobhán worked with a number of huge multinationals but finally decided to take the plunge and set up her own successful company, with international ambitions.
Siobhán's 'hire in a heartbeat', TV mathematician (if that's a thing?) Hannah Fry who makes maths fun.
Barry Walsh, an engineer turned business coach, has designed his own unique version of business coaching, creating what he calls 'The Power of Seven'. 7 non-competing business owners (actually you don't need to be the owner) meet every 6-8 weeks to have a hardcore chat, where hard but honest advice is given and taken by all participants. His Power of 7 comes very highly recommended by TeamGBS members.
Like all #TeamGBS players Barry doesn't see any borders to his business and is ready to bring it to the rest of the waiting world.
Barry's 'hire in a heartbeat'? Aidan Corbett, co-founder of Wayflyer.
PLEASE REPOST.

E114 That Great Business Show
3.00" Where else would you get a former Davy stockbroker discussing the phoenix-like rise of of avocado coloured toilet suites? Only on That Great Business Show. Harry Maharaj gave up a very lucrative career in equity sales with Davy to join, along with his brothers, his family run business, Kilkenny Architectural Salvage. There's nothing Harry doesn't know about a 2nd hand floor, a set of 'barely used' windows, or even that slightly soiled WC. The grim news though is that he tells us that avocado is back...Listen to Harry to hear about what's hot and what's not in architectural salvage, how he got to star in the RTE 'Build Your Own Home' series with Harrison Gardner, selling confessionals and stuffed horses, and his (kind of) special offer for TeamGBS listeners.
His 'hire in a heartbeat'? Gary Vaynerchuk aka Gary Vee, author, speaker and entrepreneur. (Harry, wants to hear some hard home truths from Gary).
24.00" Professor Martin Hayes of the University of Limerick wants to change the traditional 3rd level education model so as to provide more and better trained employees for businesses. He recommends the German model, much like old fashioned apprenticeships, where a school leaver is employed and then trained. The employee gets paid as they work and they get their education paid for too. Sounds too good to be true? Well it works brilliantly in Germany where dropout rates from those courses are practically non-existent, so it works for employer and employee.
Martin's 'hire in a heartbeat'? Patrick Collison, or his mother, or his father...
45.00" Mary and Sophie Leahy, mother and daughter founders of The Wine Opener, talk about where their oh so simple idea for a business came from, how their other products were spawned, how hard they work compared with when they weren't self employed, how they got featured on Ryan Tubridy's Late Late Show, what that did for their sales, their launch into the US and of course, we start with the age old question of the family business, what was the latest business row about...
Their 'hires in a heartbeat' (lots...)
Bobby Kerr
Ryan Tubridy
Aimee Connolly

3.00" Ex-Google employee Síne Dunne couldn't sleep. She was stressed. She was living on 5 hours sleep or less. She did what all great entrepreneurs do. She made a business out of it. She worked with Enterprise Ireland and Trinity College to develop her product and now SiestSleep.com is a patented sleep 'pillow' manufactured in Ireland, sold directly to the consumer. She's solving a BIG problem. There is a 100,000 person waiting list for sleep consultants in Ireland alone. After Ireland he focus is on the EU - bypassing the UK for Brexit reasons.
Her 'hire in a heartbeat'? Peachlyean founder and TeamGBS favourite (she's already been on the podcast twice) Sharon Keegan. Find out why.
22.00" Marc O'Dwyer, Darren Costello launch The Big Red Web on That Great Business Show. It's a first for the country they say, a website and ecommerce builder that has an integrated accounts software package. Darren runs a hygiene products company and explains how using Big Red Web that 'overnight' a third of his sales moved online, allowing him to watch his sales click in while lying in bed!
Marc O'Dwyer's 'hire in a heartbeat in entrepreneur Tommy Kelly formerly of eShopWorld, before he sold it for quite some money.
Darren's 'hire in a heartbeat' is Louisa Flanagan of Nsi Hair, Nail and Beauty.
42.00" Sinead O'Sullivan, Prof of Aerospace Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
She's a 'space economist' - as in an economist who specialises in the business of space, as in the space over our heads, and nothing to do with property or architecture. She talks about the shift from government to private funding for the space industry. Sinead explains who is using space to develop businesses and products, including biomedical testing. Incredibly she says that there are some companies trying to 'mine' asteroids...though it's not clear why and she says it's a complete nonsense. But Google co-founder Larry Page has invested!
That Great Business Show is probably the only place that you'll learn how to buy 'an orbit'.
Her 'hire in a heartbeat', - definitely not Elon Musk, but she does want is one of her former students, who seemingly has a brain beyond belief, Craig Sinclair

2.00" How to save €5,000 when selling a home. Need we say more? You'll love this 'newish' (2018) business, Auctioneera that says it has sold, to date, €350m worth of property in Ireland and saved vendors €4.4m in fees to date. Great news for sellers, not so great maybe for the Sherry FitzGerald, Lisneys and DNGs of the world. The business continues to grow according to guest, and co-founder, Helen O'Keefe, who wants to find other agents across the country to join her expanding team. Interestingly the two founders, Helen and Eddie O'Driscoll had not background at all in the property business. They were marketeers who saw a gap in the market. But it wasn't all plain 'selling'!
What is it about Cork people and the way they stick together? Her 'hire in a heartbeat'? Cork entrepreneur Pat Phelan, currently improving the world's aesthetics.
28.00" Paul Dunne, Director, EMEA, Poly talks to us about how Michael Collins spoke to us from the moon using Poly (formerly Plantronics) equipment. We refer to the astronaut, not the 'Big Fella', of course. Poly has recently been taken over by HP, whose products were used by Disney to bring us the original Fantasia movie, still an all-time classic. With such eminent tech lineage it's no wonder that Poly knows the future, and how we'll use it for our hybrid office work. Watch out for the tracking cameras...that we hope to have on our podcast eventually, bringing That Great Business Show to 'TV'...finally. FYI, Poly are hiring for their Galway operation. Talk to Joe (Goggins) about that.
Paul's 'hire in a heartbeat'? A new one for TeamGBS, but psychotherapist (and double podcaster) Esther Perel sounds fascinating on her insights into how people, co-founders or work colleagues, navigate the challenges in their work relationships. We'd love to have Esther join #TeamGBS

Alyssa Stevens, Social Media Director at Boston based Connelly Partners, talks to us about why your business must use TikTok, how best to use TikTok and about the 3 million (not a typo) 'influencers' they have on the Connelly database. BTW, an influencer can cost you anything from a bottle of shampoo to $300,000 plus, plus, plus. Alyssa tells all.
Her 'hire in a heartbeat'? Eva Chen, director of fashion partnership at Instagram
Emma Kennedy, co-founder of Grafter, tells us about what she says is 'Ireland's first work-style brand'. Grafter is primarily a collection of very fine looking temporary offices, mostly based in Dublin, with one unit in London. She has been looking at Cork premises as well, but nothing so far. She explains why, as more people turn their backs on the traditional office the more it suits her office business. The company has room for 300 'members' as she calls them, at the moment, but wants to grow that to 1,000. Soon.
Her 'hire in a heartbeat'? India Healy O'Connor, founder of Xelda
Gary Gallagher, co-founder Optahaul, says his early stage, but revenue generating, software company OptaHaul, can make money from working out the best route to bring milk to creamery, proving again there's the business in the most obscure of activities. The 2nd biggest cost in milk production can be haulage and he says he can save up to 30% of that cost. His software is applicable across Europe and he's had unrequested (but very welcome!) inquiries from the US and South America. He's currently funding, so if you know the industry, it's well worth a listen.
His 'hire in a heartbeat'? TeamGBS supporter Bobby Healy, founder of Manna
Ruth Bailey, co-founder Vigo Health, has a long history in the health insurance market. This is her fourth start-up (not all successful she admits) but she has made some excellent exits as well. Vigo is taking aim mostly, but not solely, at the under-35's who aren't really engaged with the health insurance market. Vigo Health could be that sector's 'gateway drug'? Ruth is looking for employers who want to offer their employees a highly-affordable perk, looking after their health, always.
Her 'hire in a heartbeat'? Her own brother, David Bailey - but she says she'd also kill him! Find out why. Gardai have been notified!

EPISODE 110 posting21st October 2022
Ciaran O'Mara and Dan Hobbs, founders of Limerick based Protex AI, have completed the Y-Combinator programme (though they'll explain why they didn't make it to San Francisco) and have gone on to raise $18 million for their 18 month old (yes, fewer than 600 days!) company. They're going BIG in Canada and now heading for the US, to take on the US, from their 26 person HQ in Dublin. Their company all grew out of a terrible accident. That led to chats with 200 health and safety experts to see if their software, that can help avoid accidents, had an application. They say 'it's easy to think outside the box if you've never been inside it'.
How do they find potential clients? LinkedIn. (They took the 'free trial' to another level!). The two lads explain how not to have your thinking curtailed to Ireland. What they learned from Y-Combinator was view the entire world as your market - 'Why not?' they say. It forces you to think BIG.
Their 'hire in a heartbeats'? - Both their dads - Brian O'Mara, Leonard Hobbs
Dr. Mary-Liz Trant, Director of the National Apprenticeship Office on why she wanted to be a carpenter but was never offered that apprenticeship. She explains all about the 66 national programmes, including an apprenticeship in tree surgery - a growing business! There's also an apprenticeship that leads to a PhD in engineering (awarded by University of Limerick). Construction apprenticeships plummeted from 8,000 to 1,000 post the Big Financial Crash. Mary-Liz explains how SMEs can benefit from apprenticeship schemes. There's an online form that she says will respond 'immediately' and there are financial benefits. New apprenticeships being launched soon, will include immersive technology (AI etc) and another in cybersecurity as well as data analytics. There's also talk about an apprenticeship programme in clothes manufacturing.
Her 'hire in a heartbeat'? - Vera Pauw

Episode 109 features three great women, three great entrepreneurs.
Tracey Moran talks about her family business, the oh, so famous Red Cow Morans Hotel (she even suggests where the name came from...), she talks about the new Wren Urban Nest hotel situated near Dublin's Grafton Street (and she says she welcomes pitches from local businesses with sustainable products or services that she may be able to use). And that's not all. As we often say on #TeamGBS, if you want something done, then give it to someone busy to do. That's why she also is heading up (with others) the Inside Out Camps, for young adolescents, to help them cope. Her first camp is based in Dublin, but she's keen to spread then nationwide.
The Local Enterprise Offices sent us two amazing women, and it's no surprise the LEO's are so keen on them. Both early stage companies have already gone international, and both sing and shout the praises of what the LEOs did for them, and what they could do for you. Sinead Crowther set up her business, Tonstix - they're sucky lollipops for sore throats -, over a Christmas period when she was going through a divorce, had quit her job and while one of her four children had suffered a serious accident. Her story, including being the first in her family to do her Leaving Cert, is AM-AZ-ING.
Equally, Lisa Geoghegan, founder of Sonallife, is life affirming. You can't but smile when Lisa talks the hind leg off you. She's a born salesperson - something it seems she learnt from car dealer dad who runs a highly successful business, 'based in the middle of nowhere' according to Lisa. Lisa's company specialises in 'making communities' and developers pay her to do it. It's a clever, clever idea, so much so that she's in talks with CBRE in Australia with a view to bringing her idea to the other side of the world. And she's developed an app to keep her communities together. She'll make you smile.

2.30" Colin Saunders and Dave Geraghty explain how Open for Vintage is taking on the world of 2nd hand luxury goods. The secret is in the platform they developed themselves (Dave is ex-Facebook, ex-Wish, ex-Google...) that gives buyers, worldwide, dynamic pricing which means you see the price and that's it, in includes currency conversion, all relevant taxes and delivery charges. Clean. But it's not the only company selling 2nd hand handbags at €100,000 (that is NOT a typo!) so how do you take on others and win in luxury?
Their 'hires in a heartbeat'?
Dave wants to hire Colin Saunders (even though they're business partners) whilst Colin wants to 'hire in a heartbeat' the Net-a-Porter founder Natalie Massenet AND he wants Kim Kardashian who has worn some of OfV items...
42.00" We have a new podcast! Joining The Media Group stable with a new legal podcast is the team that previously brought you 'Law on Trial'. Barristers Peter Leonard and Mark Tottenham are launching 'The Fifth Court' aimed at everyone and anyone with an interest matters legal (FYI there are 25,000 solicitors and c. 2,000 barristers along with thousands of law students in the country). The team of legal-eagles were the recent winners of the Law Society of Ireland 'Best Legal Podcast' Award. Professional excellence is everything at The Media Group. BUT...there's always a but, when the Batman and Robin of Lawyers came into studio we didn't give them a free pass. We made them discuss the many legal quirks about contracts. For example telling somebody in a pub that they're hired could mean, well they're hired! They debunk that pub lawyer myth about mispriced goods in a shop and they explain how you can get out of buying that car you promised to purchase.
Their 'hire in a heartbeats' - Peter wants media giants Mike Bloomberg and/or Lionel Barber (probably to handle their libel and defamation suits) whilst Mark wants John Witherow, formerly of the London Times, (for reasons, see Mike Bloomberg and Lionel Barber above!?).
60.00" All about the new 'The Fifth Court' podcast including details of their first guest, Mr. Justice Gerard Hogan, talking about The Free State Constitution - and updates on the latest key legal news.

Brian McGeough is adviser to some of Ireland's top business leaders. A masterclass on how to create a top-class corporate culture. How to empower employees by having a chat, dealing with moaners, in-office work or not, why others will still have to 'go to work', getting out of bed....and so much more. His 'hire in a heartbeat'? Socrates (No, not the soccer player who never played with UCD AFC!).
Rugby legend Andrew Trimble explains why he doesn't miss being beaten up every weekend, how he's building a worldwide sports tech business, Kaoiros. How an email to Chelsea FC opened the door to another club (the world's most recognised, but ssshhhhhh, we're not allowed to talk about it- but we do), the length of the sales cycle and why you just keep going. Typically professional players may be faced with up to 20 separate sources of communications within their club, but many of these people don't even have a laptop he tells us - hence the opportunity for the Kairos solution.
They've raised £2 million and he explains how to run on 'lean'. His 'hire in a heartbeat'? - Denis Leamy.
