We interpret our trials through a lens of inaccurate vision. God speaks, we see what we think He said through our own lens of success, failure, and value. The fear we carry is that if the situation doesn’t change, the promise won’t be fulfilled. Steve uses the story of Joseph’s imprisonment to show how we eventually have to let go of what God promised us, or the promise becomes a debt God owes us. And that’s where faith becomes control. 
 
“God isn’t trying to deliver us out of our difficult circumstances where He’s placed us, but rather to free us from who we are in that place…Somewhere we will discover that the Word of God is true, it will be performed, it has been completed in Christ. And we will come to conclude that it’s not me, it’s Him.”

No, we’re not talking reincarnation or some fatalistic theology. Steve passionately explains that as believers in Christ, Resurrection is our portion and the way of releasing an even greater reality! Death brings us to the end of ourselves: ourunderstanding and our demands to make sense of God’s ways. But if we hang on like Jacob in the wrestle, the blessing does come…though it didn’t look like we thought it would. Death brings forth the NEW.  Our new-found freedoms in Jesus are so liberating! But how quickly can they negatively impact or even harm others when I only think of myself? As image bearers of Jesus Christ, Love calls me back to humility, submission, and awareness of others every time. Even in my freedom, I get to die all over again so that I may truly LIVE!

In this episode, Steve beautifully reveals how this week's scriptures challenge us to move from self-protection and performance to a life of surrender, peace, and transformation in Christ. It reminds us that the Christian life is about being with Jesus Christ—living in His presence, following His Word, and trusting Him through every season. 

Living the supernatural life of the cross is a life that is deeply connected to Christ, not to our achievements or the approval of the world. The world says, “Live for yourself. Build your own life. Make sure people notice you and your success.” But the life of the cross says, “Live for Christ. Deny yourself. Take up your cross. Follow Me.”

This life is disconnected from worldly values. We don’t live for external validation, but for internal transformation. The cross becomes the defining point of our lives—not just as a symbol of suffering, but as the pathway to glory, the pathway to true life. Through the scriptures we find that the cross is where the natural life dies, but it’s also where the supernatural life of Christ begins.

When we live in Him and through Him, we are free from the pressure to perform, to impress, or to control our circumstances. It’s all about yielding to Christ’s life in us, trusting that He will work all things together for good (Romans 8:28).

The promise and the test—this is God’s way of shaping us. We’re starting the new year reading through the entire Bible again beginning with Genesis, Job, Isaiah, Matthew, and Romans. Steve and Diana reflect on the pattern of promise and testing unfolding in each book, ultimately pointing to Christ as the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan. The testing reveals not only our weaknesses but also God's sufficiency. We see in each story that God's promises are steadfast, and the trials are not there to make us fail, but to refine us, bringing us closer to the truth of our complete acceptance in Christ. This frees us from the need to prove ourselves, to fix ourselves, or to rely on our own strength. The testing becomes a means of peeling back layers of self-reliance, revealing how deeply we need the salvation and sufficiency of Jesus. Every time you face a challenge in your own life, you can trust that God is working to refine you, and His ultimate promise of salvation is already secured in Jesus. How freeing is that?

When we try to "manage" our trauma, we find ourselves still in the same drama. Promise is by Grace; debt is by works. It's time to forgive God for the unanswered prayers and release Him from the debt we think He owes us. Without having clarity of what to look for, we can't recognize it when it arrives. Jesus Himself submitted to the Scriptures to obey what the Father sent Him for. The Father has given us the Son; the Son has sent the Spirit to share what He's hearing; the Scriptures confirm what the Spirit is saying from the Father and Son. Steve talks about Saul's conversion being a prototype for what the Father will do in these last days. We're heading for the conclusion of the movie; are You watching for the Father to reveal Jesus? It starts in our hearts. It's ALL about LOVE as we walk in the Light.
