Steve points out that Jesus was able to accomplish all He did because He consistently submitted to the word of God. The more we put our faith IN Jesus, the more we develop the faith OF Jesus. Romans comes alive in this context. Steve and Diana cover the trouble Solomon gets into as he tries to appease his many wives and concubines; the fear of man leads us to idolatry. Steve also breaks down how I Kings covers Israel and Judah, and how the more we read and identify with the characters in the Biblical narrative, the more we are compelled to approach the Lord in humility for mercy. Jonah reminds us that no one beyond the mercy of God and that our circumstances are often God at work in our lives to reveal our hearts and bring us to repentance.

Hosea prophesies that there is a famine coming in the last days, a famine of the Word of God. Revelation 17 speaks of when Jesus returns, "They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because He is Lord of lords and King of kings--and with Him will be His called, chosen and faithful followers" v.14. Daily in the Word is our response to Hosea's prophecy. The more we spend time meditating in and fellowshiping with Him in His Word, giving Him access to our hearts, the more we are prepared by His truth and His Spirit to be the "called, chosen and faithful followers" in the days ahead.

In this podcast Steve and Diana discuss how the Kingdom is brought forth in the midst of human mess and human hunger. If we seek the praise of men, we will always be shaped by the fear of men. The Holy Spirit alone will empower us to withstand that which opposes us as we yield to the Lord. If we seek the will of God, we will be known by Him, shaped by Him, and transformed by His Word. Jesus, as High Priest gives us permanent access to the Father. He is able to save to the uttermost, as He is forever making intercession for us.

Betrayal, accusation, condemnation, crucifixion...the gifts and callings of God aren't enough to sustain us when sufferings come. Leaning on our giftings will lead us to self-sufficiency, which will lead us into control and chaos. The Fruits of the Spirit are a great thermostat for where I am with the Lord. Am I resourcing heaven, or myself? Looking to Jesus is always the way through.
