Patrol is the backbone of any PD, and the rest of us are SUPPORT!  That means...get this...you are not better than a patrol officer because you are narcotics / homicide / state / federal / ANYTHING.

You need patrol's support, they need yours. and we're all on the same side.  Today, as July wraps up and we get ready for cooler weather and schools to take these heathens back for ~40 hours a week, I will discuss my personal mistakes in managing these relationships.  Times my life was endangered by fellow officers and I tried to put property on patrol to log when it was really kinda my responsibility.

Don't endanger your partners, do 'em right, we're on the same team.  Here's how to put that in action.

Everyone loves a statistic to prove an opinion, so I'm going to make one up.  I'd like you to correct me if I'm wrong:

It's been proven that across all sworn law enforcement, less than 15% of LEOs train consistently in the following areas:

-Defensive Tactics (including BJJ, boxing or any other martial art)

-Firearms

-Fitness

-General Job Skills

Ergo, all previous episodes are moot.  85% of LEOs have no interest in development.  So, let's aim an episode at y'all - love y'all too :)

Today I will discuss how to not get beat up, killed or in trouble if you're unwilling to physically and mentally train.  It's ok, and "we listen and we don't judge."  But if you're not going to get fit, learn to fight and shoot, let's discuss how to stay safe.

The 4th Amendment protects...OK, I'm not defining this thing again.  If you don't know what it is and how to apply it yet, tune in 102 episodes ago.  I've already covered several of the exceptions to the 4th...a valid consent, a valid search warrant...

Today let's get into arguably the easiest exception to the 4th Amendment...a 4th Amendment waiver.  I'll get into the ins and outs of how to utilize this tool legally, and what experience has taught me regarding what will fly in court and what will be suppressed.

Yesterday, outside Baton Rouge, a Deputy United States Marshal (DUSM) was shot and killed.  I will speak for 15 minutes on my experiences on the USMS Fugitive Task Force, what kinds of men and women make it up, and what a loss this is.

This morning, Leo is joined by Brad Less!  Brad discusses the issues faced by the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and how he would address them, given the opportunity.  Memphis / Shelby County has drawn national attention through the Memphis Safe Task Force - a massive influx of state and federal law enforcement on the streets, and uniformed National Guard soldiers on patrol. 

Brad provides details on his vision for policy shifts that aim to support SCSO employees, their families, and the citizens they serve.  From retirement to medical retirement to pay rates, Brad expresses his desire to make SCSO the premier law enforcement agency in the region.

Early voting starts July 17, so get educated on who stands for what and how they plan to accomplish what they claim!

Today I will dive into how to fix organizational dysfunction.  Simple, right?

Well, kinda.

Whatever size department you're at, big, small, or smack in the middle, that ship can turn the right direction.  Send this anonymously to a Chief, Assistant Chief, Colonel, Major, Captain, LT or Sergeant that doesn't trust their people.  Complains about their people.  Doesn't even like or respect their subordinates.  

Let's start turning the Titanic today.

Good morning, and I hope you can still count to 10 on your fingers!

Kevin Rardin worked as an attorney at 201 Poplar, the courthouse for Memphis, TN, for ~4 decades.  He was also a juvenile magistrate, spending a year judging cases.

On the 4th, it seems appropriate to discuss guns.  Kevin will go into a Tennessee law that was amended, with the changes going into effect on July 1, 2026.  This law affects the conditions required for a citizen to utilize deadly force to protect his or her property.

If you are going to pull the trigger to protect your property, it would be wise to fully understand the law (if you don't like going to prison and losing your house / car / dog in a lawsuit).  Perhaps listen to a man that spent a career in TN law.

After that, Kevin will go into more TN legal changes - namely the changes no longer requiring gun-toters to have a permit.  Kevin will provide his opinion on this change, and how to potentially empower Memphis Police and Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies at the legislative level to keep Memphis safe from those that seek to commit felonious assaults with guns.
