  • Episode XIV: An Inside Look at the Park Slope Food Co-op
If you listen to this podcast, you’ve probably stepped inside the Littleton Food Co-op. But have you ever been inside the Park Slope Food Co-op of Brooklyn, New York? Probably not. That’s because you have to be a member to shop at this Brooklyn institution that has been praised and parodied since its inception in 1973. Perhaps its most discussed feature is the member work requirement. Seventy five percent of their “employees” are actually co-op members earning their right to shop for “good food at low prices.” On this episode of “That’s Rad,” host Anastasia sits down with Ashley, a member of the Park Slope Food Co-op, to talk about her experiences, and see if they can find any common ground. Hint: the common ground is not going to be on store intercom usage.
All are welcome to visit and shop at the Littleton Food Co-op! No membership required. Conveniently located right off of Exit 41 in Littleton, we are filled to the brim with local produce, cheeses, meats, craft beer and wine, and more. There’s also prepared foods, deli items, and bulk foods to meet your needs. Littleton’s first and only community-owned market has everything to meet your needs this winter (and beyond!).

  • Episode XII: Black, White, and a Co-op All Over
That’s Rad is celebrating National Co-op Month for October! Host Anastasia saw this sacred month as an opportunity to talk about the importance of being a co-op in a world full of for-profit businesses. The perfect case study showed up in the form of Nick Managan of Cabot Creamery Cooperative. Nick and Anastasia discuss how even though many consumers do not realize Cabot is a co-op, the cooperative principles have shaped their farming and business practices since 1919. Listeners will hear how Cabot’s cooperative status impacts it’s farmer owners, the communities they live in, and their consumers (that’s you!). It’s a half an hour about cheese and co-ops--do you really need another reason to listen?
Speaking of co-ops, the Littleton Food Co-op is Littleton, New Hampshire’s first and only community owned market. • Episode XI: Fall is Here
The air is getting cooler, the leaves are changing colors, and most importantly -- fall food is being cooked up in full swing! In honor of northern New Hampshire’s most colorful season, host Anastasia is talking about some of the flavors that pair best with Autumn for the latest episode of That’s Rad. First up, Morgan of Mount Cabot Maple reminds us all why we need to ditch the “pancake pigeonhole,” and start using maple products all day, every season. Then, if you can’t make it apple picking this year, hearing from Bill and Ben of Champlain Orchards is your next best bet for the ~authentic orchard experience~. If only that saying about “an apple a day…” could be swapped out for their ciders, pies, and other delicious fruits, too. So grab your headphones and an apple cider donut and press play on another great episode of your locally produced local co-op podcast.
In addition to the producers featured on this episode, the Littleton Food Co-op is stocked full of local eats and treats for your fall feast. The northeast kingdom of Vermont and New Hampshire is packed to the brim with amazing local farmers and artisans. • Episode IX: Cooperation Among Cooperatives
This episode is all about co-ops helping co-ops! The sixth co-op principle is “Cooperation Among Cooperatives.” How do co-ops, well, cooperate? Host Anastasia takes us through a number of different ways that co-ops have been known to support one another. First, did you know that the Littleton Food Co-op is actually a member of other co-ops? One of those is the Neighboring Food Co-op Association (NFCA), and Bonnie Hudspeth is featured in this episode to tell you why it is imperative for co-ops to work together, and the results that can happen when they do so. We also step outside the consumer food co-op world to hear from Molly Snell-Larch of Columinate, a national consulting cooperative made up of diverse experts dedicated to making co-ops better. Finally, David Hale of the Caledonia Food Co-op tells us how valuable established co-ops are when forming a new co-op. Did we use the word “co-op” enough for you?
