  • Sprinkled, Dabbed, Dunked, 4/6: The Renunciation of Evil

After this good word, we blew into balloons, expelling the stuff that needs to get gone from our own lives. POPPING those balloons was cathartic. Also loud. Thanks, Nathan, for taking us where we needed to go.

  • Sprinkled, Dabbed, Dunked, 3/6: The Call of God is Totalizing

We lit candles for the things we've renounced (or need to renounce) in order to be with Jesus. And we floated them on the waters of the baptistery.

Nets, boats, dads, stability, certainty, comfort... What does the baptized life call us to renounce? How lightly do we hold the people and stuff (not the same things, we know) that are dear to us? Does God reign, and does it matter?

  • Sprinkled, Dabbed, Dunked, 2/6: We Are Invited to See and Be Seen

"Come and see," Jesus invites, and this is his pledge of transparency. But he sees you, too, under the fig tree of your comfortable boredom or under the rubble of your latest catastrophe. How does it feel to be transparent to him?

Oh, and, we absolutely must talk about Nazareth, that #shitholecountry from whence he comes. (Yeah, we know it's a city.)

  • Sprinkled, Dabbed, Dunked, 1/6: Jesus Says "Yes" in Baptism

Semper reformanda, always reforming, a life under construction -- this is the baptized life, for Jesus and for us. We grow into our understanding of what it means to be immersed in God, drowning in God, over the course of a lifetime. So no matter whether you were dabbed, sprinkled or dunked; at birth or 8 or 12 or 30 -- you are God's beloved child, and God is so pleased with you.

  • Resist the Wholesale Rejection of Religion

We're almost all Spiritual Refugees around here, and it can be hard to come back into the arms of religion. Why is it necessary? Why must we #resist?
