The simplicity and beauty that is Side Project Brewing is something that I was immediately drawn to when learning about the brewery. The elegance and fluidity of the font and lettering plus a logo that uses very little to say so much. This branding effort and commitment to style is made possible by Tim Bottchen. It was a unique perspective and insight into a new focus on label and design for us here and it has set the bar high for future episodes. Enjoy the opportunity to learn a little bit more about one of the most saught after breweries in the country and the man who makes them look so good doing it.

Truly a Jake of all trades. We caught up with Jake Alexander of JamBase, Cellarmaker Brewing Company and Clangin' & Bangin' fame while he was in London working on his first feature length film. Jake was recommended to us by a mutual friend as well as several of our West Coast listeners. He has a warm and calm spirit, which it made it very easy for us to talk with him despite the distance. He is a hard worker who is involved in several great projects and jobs - drummer, designer, videographer and beer drinker being a few of the hats he wears on the regular. Take a little time to learn more about Jake the artist and I'm sure you'll be impressed with his story and path.

This week's episode features owner, brewer, artist and father - Daniel Endicott. When starting a new project you are just hoping that people feel your idea is a good one and in turn validate your concept. From the moment that I reached out to Daniel to invite him to be a part of this project he has been nothing but a positive force and encouraging. Learn about his process and focus to create a piece of art everyday. It's positive, it's beautiful and it is something I'm proud to share with you all. Daniel is a true artist whose love of beer and art is something special, not to mention I am a little jealous he gets to do two of his favorite things for his job. Enjoy this unique look into one of the truly special individuals in the craft beer space.

O Canada! Warren is another first for us here at the 16oz. Canvas - our first Canadian artist to join us here. It took a bit of convincing but was really great to get him out of his shell and talking about himself and his work with Liquid Riot and his company Thro' Creative. He is a hard working, honest and very appreciative individual who loves his job, his family and a good beer. Definitely connected and would have loved to have done this one in 3-D over a few cold ones. Enjoy.

This week's art is Sarah Shannon. A great episode about hard work, stalking and the love of craft beer. Sarah and I share the collective We secret and brought that to life in this episode as she is the Owner, Designer and Ruler that is Foggy London Towne. We came to learn of her and her firm through the work that she is doing with Triple Crossing Brewing out of Richmond, VA and loved it. If you're looking to learn about how to start your own business while juggling the many different roles and hats that go into successfully maintaining a robust client base, this is the one for you. Tim Oxton is the Art Director for Night Shift Brewing. It's a role that much like the brewery's success and growth in the craft beer space, has grown organically. Being hired at your brother's company for anyone can be exciting and stressful all at once, but it is also a source of pride for Tim. Over time what started out as helping his brother out evolved into a full-time position that is integral in the image and brand that is NS and Tim's hard work and passion for it play a big part in that. Tim not only is responsible for the labels, but also the photography and images of the brewery. It was great to learn about his process, working with his brother, his photography projects and to chat and share a laugh. This is almost like a podcast version of his strangers with random object project - we'd never met (and still haven't in 3-D) but shared a moment and some stories.

Lisa Sotero is a hard worker that did what was necessary to take care of her daughter and her family, but she never gave up on her passion which was art and illustration. So much so that her work resonated with Andy at Stony Creek causing them to scrap the original plans their agency had for the designer and to track down Lisa to meet with them. Her Herons are bold and detailed and have helped to bring Stony Creek's beer and brewery to life. It was a joy to speak with Lisa and learn more about her story, her family and experience her humility and appreciation for art and her fellow artists. This is a great story that I know you will enjoy.

Robby Davis is a Lousville, KY based artist who is featured on this episode. Bo & Luke is the magnet that drew me to Against the Grain Brewery and their beer as well as Robby's artwork. His humorous cartoon style characters bring the brewery to life while pushing the envelope. He is a soft spoken humble man who was great about sharing his process, work phases and love of podcasts and music. Through our mutual love of General Lee and Bo & Luke we created another great episode of the podcast that I am sure you will enjoy.

Pipeworks is a special brewery for me and my love of Chicago. The Ninja v Unicorn beer and label are part of that craft beer discovery that makes me love this project and speaking with Jason helped to reiterate that. He has fun and is doing something he loves. His studio, his band and his family are all important to him too. No egos were present in the making of this week's podcast episode and I was his first. We were gentle, but no cuddling. I look forward to the next Ink and Lead Designs inspired mini art show in my fridge.

Each artist I meet I try and take away something from them to do a better job in the future, but also to change my perspective and appreciation of art, design and creativity. My interview with Max was something unique and special for me. His perspective on life and art really resonated with me as a brother, father and husband especially his pieces featuring the games we play as youth, trampolines specifically. He was also one of the first to say my aesthetic question was a great question - one which he crushed.
