Emerald Fennell’s big-budget movie “Wuthering Heights,” starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, attracted wide-spread criticism and controversy long before it was ever released. From its costuming to its casting choices, people had a lot to say about this new adaptation of Emily Bronte’s 1847 novel. But how did we get here? And why, 179 years after Emily Bronte’s book was first published, do we keep telling and retelling the story of Wuthering Heights?
