Today's guest:
Dr. Mansi Kasliwal talks about the GROWTH project ( @GrowthPire ), which uses international teamwork to watch astronomical events around the clock. An individual observer is thwarted by sunrise, but together, an international team can continuously monitor supernovae, neutron stars, and asteroids over 24 hours.

There are regular volcanoes and then there are supervolcanoes. Massive calderas of hot magma of incomprehensible size. Bad news: These things explode randomly and catastrophically. Worse news: There's a bunch around the Earth.

Description: Preparation for the annular solar eclipse in Patagonia, the southern part of Argentina and Chile, on February 26. Today boasts an eclipse of the Sun, but you have to go to the southern part of South America to see the Moon go entirely in front of the Sun. The Moon is a little smaller than average today, so it doesn't completely block the Sun, leaving a ring--an "annulus"--of everyday sunlight. Such an annular eclipse occurs somewhere in the world about every 18 months.

What makes a planet “Earth-like”?
We’ve now found over 3,500 planets around distant stars.
Though a great many of them are gas giants like Jupiter & Saturn, many of them have been described as rocky and “Earth-sized.” But that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re "Earth-like" at all!

So we always want to talk about how we can make Mars more Earth-like, but the reality is that we're making Earth more Venus-like! We're Venusforming Earth. So what are the various factors we are impacting on a global scale and how can we fix them?
