Today on The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi react to the latest comments made by a national media member about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Sam Darnold. This time, ESPN's Louis Riddick said that Darnold could be "the out-of-nowhere surprise of the year." Do these comments say more about Darnold as a player or the 49ers as an organization? And, at this point, would a successful Darnold season even be that surprising considering all this offseason chatter?

Plus, the guys dig into the season ahead for star running back Christian McCaffrey. He was incredible in a 49ers uniform last season after coming over mid-season from Carolina. But can McCaffrey keep that up and look the same or similar in 2023? Will the 49ers need to rely on him early and often given the questions about the health of quarterback Brock Purdy?

Also, Marc shares an interesting observation about the 49ers' 2023 schedule. San Francisco is at more of a disadvantage than any other team in the NFL when it comes to one unique scheduling quirk. Did the NFL screw the 49ers here? The guys explore and explain.

Today on The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi react to San Francisco 49ers new defensive coordinator Steve Wilks' comments about the team's 2023 defense his insistence that former Atlanta Falcon Isaiah Oliver is the heir apparent at nickel cornerback after Jimmie Ward left to join DeMeco Ryans in Houston. How does Oliver slotting in at nickel corner affect the rest of the defense and where else are their important position battles this offseason?

Plus, the guys dive even deeper into the 49ers' 2023 schedule. We know about the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Eve games. We know about the Seahawks-Eagles-Seahawks trio of games in November and December. But what games and stretches might surprise San Francisco this season if they're not careful?

Also, what are the biggest reasons to believe (or not) that the 2023 San Francisco 49ers are legitimate Super Bowl threats? Is the health of the quarterback room enough to scare you away? Is the roster too talented to not take seriously? And does the team's now-or-never mindset give you confidence that this could be the year?
