The 415ers

On today's episode of The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi continue to react to the nine picks the San Francisco 49ers made in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Based on the 49ers' selections, which players already on the roster can we say 'won' the draft? Which players feel like Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch are extra confident in them?

On the flip side, which players might take the 49ers' selections as a reason to worry about their place on the team? The 49ers drafted two tight ends. Does that mean anything for George Kittle?

Plus, the 49ers did sign another quarterback this week, bringing the team's QB up to four. This doesn't mean anything, right? And, Deebo Samuel recently poked fun at the Los Angeles Rams. What other teams can we poke fun at?

Today on The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi react to the San Francisco 49ers' 2023 NFL Draft class. San Francisco made nine selections, including two tight ends, two linebackers, a safety, cornerback, defensive end, wide receiver, and kicker -- and no offensive tackles or running backs!

The 49ers started by trading up in the third round to select Penn State safety Ji'Ayir Brown, followed by Michigan kicker Jake Moody 99th overall. How much should we expect from Brown as a rookie and might his career follow a trajectory similar to a certain current 49er? Plus, why did San Francisco draft a kicker in the third round? Can we make this pick make sense?

In general, what was the 49ers' plan with this draft? Are they hoping for immediate contributions on offense and defense or was this a draft with an eye set on the future? What kind of traits did San Francisco target with their nine picks?

Of the nine players drafted by the 49ers over the weekend, who might have the most immediate impact, aside from kicker Jake Moody? And which picks -- or lack thereof -- surprised you the most? And might we be able to predict a future transaction because of the 49ers' activity this weekend?

On today's episode of The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi debate if new San Francisco 49ers quarterback Sam Darnold expects to start games this season. Why else would Darnold sign in San Francisco? Did John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan, and the 49ers organization promise him anything before he agreed to sign or did they tell him they don't have faith in Trey Lance? And how much of an impact did Darnold's relationship with Christian McCaffrey have on his decision to become a 49er?

Plus, we have official confirmation that the 49ers -- at the very least -- did their homework on Lamar Jackson. But just how far did they get? And is there any reason to hold out hope that San Francisco could pull the rabbit out of the hat and somehow land the disgruntled star quarterback?

And, as the NFL Draft gets under way, the guys offer draft hot takes. Will the 49ers make any trades during the NFL Draft, either to move up into the first or second round or to acquire a player currently in the league? What about draft-wide storylines? Which quarterback is in danger of falling, perhaps because of a metric that Brock Purdy helped commercialize?
