The 415ers

On today's episode of The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi discuss the latest news about the San Francisco 49ers quarterback room.

Brock Purdy recently said that he's not sure if he'll even be able to play at all in the 2023 season. What does that mean for the 49ers and their quarterback room? Does the possibility that Purdy could miss an extended portion of the season change the team's plan for Trey Lance this offseason? And does it change anything for new quarterback Sam Darnold?

One NFL analyst says that Sam Darnold will likely start Week 1 for the 49ers given Brock Purdy's injury and the team's feelings toward Trey Lance. How likely is that scenario? If both Lance and Darnold were healthy, who would and who should the 49ers pick to start at quarterback? And what would the 49ers answer to that question tell us about their quarterbacks?

The big NFL news of the week is quarterback Jalen Hurts' 5-year, $255 million contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles. Can the 49ers learn something about their failures with Trey Lance from Hurts' tenure with the Warriors? Plus, an interesting 49ers and Trey Lance conspiracy theory.

Today on the 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi begin to dive into the San Francisco 49ers' needs in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft.

Might Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch target a quarterback in the draft? What about UCLA's Dorian Thompson-Robinson? Are there other potential late-round signal callers the 49ers might have interest in?

Looking at the 49ers' current depth chart, which position is the most open? Which position is most likely to feature a rookie in an every-game role? And what can we learn about how the 49ers feel about their depth chart based on their reported recent workouts during the lead up to the draft?

With the depth chart in mind, who do the 49ers most need to have a good offseason and step up this coming year? Where are the questions on the roster that they'll likely address in the draft but would love to have answered by natural progression of the guys already under contract?

On today's episode of The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi discuss Trey Lance's recent activity, debate if there's still a hype train for Lance around the rest of the league, and turn their attention to this month's draft, which is just over two weeks away.

Last week, Trey Lance was spotted working out with Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes and others in Texas. Have you seen Lance throw the ball recently? Do you buy into his new-and-improved mechanics or is everyone making this a bigger deal than it actually is?

Plus, the guys try to gauge the league-wide interest level in Lance. Does the NFL still value him as a potential NFL quarterback? Are the 49ers trending toward trading the young quarterback? And theoretically, what would the package in return for Lance look like?

Also, the NFL Draft is fast approaching. The 49ers have 11 picks in this year's draft. Where are the team's biggest areas of need and what should the franchise's strategy be heading into the draft?
