The 415ers

Today on The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi dive even deeper into the 49ers' 2023 schedule. We know about the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Eve games. We know about the Seahawks-Eagles-Seahawks trio of games in November and December. But what games and stretches might surprise San Francisco this season if they're not careful?

Today on The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi discuss the biggest reasons to believe (or not) that the 2023 San Francisco 49ers are legitimate Super Bowl threats. Is the health of the quarterback room enough to scare you away? Is the roster too talented to not take seriously? And does the team's now-or-never mindset give you confidence that this could be the year?

Today on The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi react to the official release of the San Francisco 49ers' 2023 schedule. What stands out? San Francisco is set to travel the second-most miles in the NFL, behind only division rival Seattle. Could that prove to be an issue for the 49ers this season? What stretch of the season stands out and how might the 49ers be challenged during these weeks?

Also, how does the 49ers' schedule stack up against the rest of the NFC West? Were the NFL schedule-makers any more or less generous to the Seahawks, Rams, and Cardinals? And are you taking the over or the under of each NFC West team's win total for the upcoming season now that we know the full schedule?

Plus, Kyle Shanahan publicly addresses his quarterback room for the first time in a while. He said he expects Brock Purdy to return by training camp (!) and spoke highly of all three -- yes, three -- quarterbacks on his roster. Did his comments on Trey Lance stand out to you at all? If you were forced to predict the 49ers' Week 1 starting quarterback, who would you pick?

Today on The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi discuss and react to recent comments made about new San Francisco 49ers quarterback Sam Darnold. On Monday morning on "Get Up," former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky said that Darnold "is absolutely capable of taking this team back to the NFC Championship Game." Really? What does that mean? And is that at all disrespectful to Brock Purdy?

Plus, late last week, long-time 49ers beat reporter Matt Maiocco said that Darnold "might be the most talented thrower of the football the 49ers have ever had." That's a joke, right? There's no way the 49ers actually feel that way about Darnold, right? What is Maiocco getting at here and is there a chance the 49ers view Darnold as anything more than a stop-gap backup quarterback?

Also, 49ers general manager John Lynch recently tried to explain the team's pick of Michigan kicker Jake Moody in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Do you buy this explanation? Does the pick make any more sense now over a week removed from the draft? And just how much is riding on Moody proving himself worthy of the selection in his rookie year?
