The 415ers

Today on The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc react to a busy first day of free agency for the San Francisco 49ers.

Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Javon Hargrave is the newest member of the 49ers defense, per reports, after agreeing to a four-year, $84 million contract on Monday. Hargrave racked up 11 sacks last season. What does this signing do for the 49ers? Are you surprised John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan pulled the trigger on a great free agent like this? Plus, a couple of familiar faces will return for the 2023 season while a couple others will not.

Meanwhile, former 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has agreed to a three-year, $67.5 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders. What does his deal tell you about how the rest of the league views Garoppolo and, by extension, the 49ers? How will he fare with the Raiders? And how would you sum up the Jimmy Garoppolo era in the Red & Gold?

Former Carolina Panther Sam Darnold is the 49ers newest quarterback as he agreed to a one-year contract with San Francisco on Monday, per reports. Is there anything to glean from this move by the 49ers about Trey Lance? Is Darnold coming toSanta Clara with the intention of being a third-string quarterback? Plus, is the 49ers quarterback room in a better position now than it was one year ago?

Today on The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi continue to preview the San Francisco 49ers' plans for free agency.

(1:49) The Baltimore Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on quarterback Lamar Jackson, meaning he is free to negotiate a new contract with any other team in the league. But it's a little more complicated for the 49ers to make a run at Jackson. How would it work, and what would it take the 49ers to part with to make it work? Will the team even consider it?

(14:00) Aside from the quarterback room, how aggressive will the 49ers be in free agency? What are the positions of need and who are some names the 49ers should be targeting? But will they be willing to give out a big-money contract this offseason given all the money they already have tied up on their roster?

(28:18) Also, Fred Warner ranked the five-best current San Francisco 49ers. He naturally ranked himself first, but who else made the list? Who got snubbed and what does it say that a quarterback is nowhere near the team's top five?

Today on The 415ers, hosts Evan Giddings and Marc Grandi dive into the offseason quarterback carousel and look ahead to the start of free agency as rumors begin to fly.

(3:25) The guys start by reacting to the news that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is set to have surgery on his torn UCL on Friday, March 10th. What does this date mean in terms of his availability for the 2023 regular season? And what happens if Purdy and the 49ers get bad news on Friday -- that Purdy needs Tommy John surgery and will miss the entire season?

(13:42) Plus, a couple of high-priced quarterbacks are already off the market: Derek Carr has agreed to a deal with the New Orleans Saints and Geno Smith will return to the Seattle Seahawks. Both are set to make $35 million or more per year. What do these deals mean for Jimmy Garoppolo and the rest of the quarterback market at the 49ers try to find the final piece of two of their quarterback room?

(29:38) Also, free agency rumors are starting to fly, including about 49ers kicker Robbie Gould, who says he plans to be kicking elsewhere in 2023. Is Gould telling the truth, or is this just a negotiation tactic? Plus, the window to use the franchise tag is nearing a close -- will the 49ers utilize it this season?
