Working from home is awesome.  I have worked from home for 25+ years and the sounds of "life" never got in the way.  Until now.
Scheduling meetings, recording interviews, and just doing my basic work stuff - now includes juggling way too much neighborhood stuff.   It's like a Game of Life - (Milton Bradley/Hasbro) spinning my productivity out-of-control.  

 After a weekend of massive peaceful protesting around the world - here in Los Angeles the wind kicked up and was frightening at times.  The sound effect is the actual wind blowing outside my door on June 8, 2020, at 7 AM. 

As the wind howled all night and into the morning, and a new fear of warm weather and fires added to COVID and Protests, I had to ask, for the first time in my life, why.  Is it possible that the wind is a cleansing sent from above?

I've been in advertising for over 28 years.   I see ads both from a consumer POV and a creative strategist - but I always see them as an object of disruption.  TV, Radio, Billboards. Mobile, or Social Media, they have one purpose - to sell you something.  So why do people talk back to ads, complain that "they are selling you something" and then get angry about it?

Since I was a young girl I have loved poetry.  I didn't love it to the extent that I have become any type of expert, but a few poems have always remained close to my heart.  The Walrus and The Carpenter, from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland written in 1865, pretty much sums up what it's like to be a follower in today's odd world of social media.  I mean, would a Walrus ever be walking with a Carpenter along a briny beach?  Why then do we follow "made up" personas?  Or for that matter, Alice down a rabbit hole?

 

Our world is changing.  Although this podcast never intended to deal with current events, it's very difficult to ignore them.  It's been some time now that the expression of a "new normal" has been used to describe what life will be like "after" COVID and now combined with #BlackLivesMatter.  Here's my take on why it doesn't make any sense, and never did.

I'm not a goal setter.  I don't write in a journal.  Perhaps to a fault.  I suppose it's because I get through live by living in the moment, the Now, if you will.  Do you set goals?  Once you reach them do you set another?  And another one?  And then one day you wake up and say to yourself "Where did my life go" - "How did I get to be so old?".   Wayne Dyer says it's from the disease of wanting more.  I agree.  

Don't let life slip away in pursuit of endless goals. 

There is a reason for everything in life.  It may seem a ridiculous statement at times, but in the long run we always manage to see the reason.  The murder of George Floyd is no different. It seems senseless today.   But it will forever change this nation and the world.  I have to ponder if he was chosen to be that catalyst for human change?  Is it possible that was a modern day martyr, and  didn't know it?

First it was CoVid 19 and stay at home orders.  Then, just when we thought we were moving in a positive direction, George Floyd is killed and the entire country goes to crap in a few days.   So is it right to ponder - when anger and hatred come from empathy, is it okay be be angry?   Can a random act of kindness be the answer we are all looking for?  It would really be nice if it were.
