  • Pod #34: "Raising CEO Kids" My Interview With Sarah Cook
We teach our kids a lot of things - some big and some small. One of the big things we are responsible to help them learn and manage is money. On the podcast today I interview Sarah Cook. After observing one of her children, Sarah realized she needed to learn how to help him have the ability to make his own money and be successful if he chose not to go to college. Her research led to interviewing many children and their parents from around the world who had successfully started businesses. She and her husband, Jerry Cook, decided to compile all they learned into a book called "The Parent's Guide to Raising CEO Kids". We discuss why the book is helpful not only to parents of children wanting to start their own businesses but really anyone wanting to start a business. We also chat about how Sarah herself had to change her money stories and how that has led her to be a successful entrepreneur herself. If you have a child interested in starting their own business, want to start a business as a family to make some extra cash, or want to start a business yourself, this is a must listen to episode.

  • Pod #29: How To Comfort Those Who Are Grieving
It's the month of February so this month I will be discussing the topic of grief. I chose this topic because I think it is one that is misunderstood and uncomfortable for people to deal with but it's something we all will experience at some point in our lives. On todays episode I give six things one can do to help those who are going through the grieving process. I am well aware that there are as many things we can do to help people as there are people, so these are just the tip of the iceberg. The most important thing to remember when you are trying to help others is that you are the real gift and if you strive to give of yourself, you can't go wrong.
If you have any feedback or questions remember that you can always reach out to me at [email protected]. I'd love to hear from you.

  • Special Episode "A Cup of Joel" #5: What the Movie a Life Of Pi and the Scriptures Have In Common
Have you ever seen the movie "Life of Pi"? Well you should, if just for the cinematography alone. In short, it's a story about a boy who gets stranded in the middle of the ocean after the ship he's on sinks. He has to survive in a life boat with a tiger, orangatang, zebra, and hyena. I'll warn you, it's not for the faint of heart. Anyway, there's a twist at the end of the movie which is the basis for Joel and my discussion today and how it relates to the scriptures. Have a listen and then come tell us what you think. We'd love to hear your feedback. You can reach us at [email protected]. Enjoy!

  • Pod #28: My Interview With Nichole Van
You are in for a treat today on today’s podcast. Today I interview Nichole Van with is an acclaimed photographer and self-published author of eight fiction novels. A little over a year ago, she and her husband decided to throw caution to the wind and moved their family to Scotland. During our chat we talk about what it’s like to independently move to another country, how her love for photography came about, and how her love of reading helped her process the death of her brother which led to her taking the leap to start writing her own books. If you are thinking about writing a book, you will want to take a listen. She gives lots of good insight into the experience she has with putting her work out into the world, being self-published, and some good tips for making sure you don’t burnout. The last part of the interview is my favorite because she talks about how she and her husband have worked together and divided the responsibilities in their home, something that seems to have been beneficial for both of them. The reason I decided to interview Nichole was because I think she truly does live her life on purpose. I learned a lot from talking with her and I hope you all enjoy and learn from her as well. You can find Nichole at nicholev.com.

  • Pod #27: Living Your Life On Purpose By Creating
Elder Uctdorf said it best when he said, “The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul. No matter our talents, education, backgrounds, or abilities, we each have an inherent wish to create something that did not exist before.
Everyone can create. You don’t need money, position, or influence in order to create something of substance or beauty.”
We were made to create. It is not only a gift from God to us but also a gift from us to God. It is essential to our growth as human beings. Come listen today and learn more why part of living your life on purpose is to create something that only you were made to create. Big or small, it doesn’t matter. You have a work to do. Are you doing it?
