  • Attachment Vs. Loving-Kindness (10% Happier Self Care Journey) 3/2/20

Attachment Vs. Loving-Kindness (10% Happier Self Care Journey) 3/2/20

    - Loving-kindness is generosity, love, presence, caring and attention without attachments and or expectations.

    - Attachments can equal control. Examples: "I'll love you as long as  _______." "I'll do this for you as long as _______." etc. Some basic  fundamental expectations ARE warranted in certain scenarios (basic  respect, safety etc.) but be cautious of deep and extensive attachments  that introduces frustration, suffering, resentment etc.

    - Remember. You can't control how your gift of loving-kindness will be received.

    - Be VERY careful of being locked into or undesirably committing to  scenarios where heavy and unrealistic attachments and expectations are  put on you in order to receive some one else's kindness etc. This is NOT  kindness at all. This is a subtle emotional trap.

    - Strive to  intentionally be the most open to freely sharing loving-kindness while  simultaneously and firmly not tolerating being mistreated or being taken  advantage of in the process. Aaron Hill

    - Always check in with yourself to make sure you're being as honest as  possible with yourself about your sharing of love, forgiveness,  acceptance etc. and attachments/expectations that naturally arise in you  from that sharing. There are times when you honestly won't be able to  give because you can't at the moment help the fact that you have deep  attachments and unrealistic expectations. When you do identify this you  may have to maturely "let go" and come back to the thought of sharing  when you no longer have detrimental attachments. This is a demonstration  of emotional intelligence. Aaron Hill

    - Note the times when you are free vs. attached. Celebrate your moments  of freedom and be gentle with yourself during times of unhealthy  attachment. This will help your overarching goal of being a more loving  and kind person toward yourself and the world around you. Aaron Hill

  • Interoception and Meditation (10% Happier Self Care Journey) 1/5/20

Interoception and Meditation (10% Happier Self Care Journey) 2/2/20

    •  Interoception is a sense that provides information about the internal  condition of our body—how our body is feeling on the inside.  Interoception allows us to experience many body sensations such as a growling stomach, dry mouth, tense muscles or racing heart.

    •  Interoception is contemporarily defined as the sense of the internal  state of the body.[1] This can be both conscious and non-conscious. It  encompasses the brain's process of integrating signals relayed from the  body into specific subregions—like the brainstem, thalamus, insula,  somatosensory, and anterior cingulate cortex—allowing for a nuanced  representation of the physiological state of the body.[2][3] This is  important for maintaining homeostatic conditions[4] in the body and,  potentially, aiding in self-awareness.[5]

    Feel In/Feel Out/Feel Rest

    • When you locate a feeling or emotion internally and it's correlating manifestation in the body label it as "feel in".

    •  When you notice a feeling generated by physical sensations like pain,  discomfort, hot, cold, external sounds or smells label it as "feel out".

    •  When you are completely neutral and aren't being affected by any  internal or external sensations and are at ease label it as "feel rest".

    • Noting and labeling our emotions it decreases our stress response and is a form of emotion regulation visible in the brain.

    •  Instead of saying "I am ______" saying " I feel _____" helps to  disassociate oneself or not identify as the emotion itself. Then follow  this statement with identifying if and where it manifests in the body.
