Self-control actually has nothing to do with us, and has nothing to do with will power, it is the character of Christ that lives within us. Self-control is a protection, it is not a restriction, and it is a freedom not a bondage but it depends who is in control. A lack of self-control can make us vulnerable, chaotic, messy and impulsive, where we rely on what is our right and the woosh that comes with emotions.

We have to determine for ourselves how much truth we want, and what truth means to us. Are we willing to be truthful, honest, vulnerable, and full of integrity, or do we instead choose to live lives that are cryptic, withholding information, and lying? To live a life of truth means that we have a relationship with Jesus who is the truth, and we have to carry love with that because truth without love kills.

This is something that we are instructed to do Biblically, and we are also told that if we do not forgive others, then God will not forgive us. Unforgiveness can lead to bitterness, and it has a family which consists of spitefulness, grudges, anger, as well as other things which can create a shadow between us and God.

Being led by the Spirit is not a system or an obligation. It's not like the commute to work that we have to endure every day in order to get where we need to, it is a relational place in our heart that we choose. The Spirit of God leads us into all truth, it leads us to Him who is the truth! He is after relationship before instruction, intimacy before direction, and willingness never obligation, because that was an act of the old covenant that did not require personal relationship, but grace changed that for us, His love for us changed that for us.

Hypocrisy is problematic because it can manifest in many ways depending on circumstance and personality, and it can mean different things to different people. Our hypocrisy however it manifests, is self protection, it's self reliance and denial at its worst. To not see our own failings because we are so invested in the failings of others, is blindness at its height. The beginning of dealing with hypocrisy whether that triggers us in others or ourselves, is that we have to fix our eyes on Jesus and stop fixing our eyes on others. We need a healthy focus on self, be self aware, deal with our own failings, invite Him into our heart to deal with ourselves, listen to His voice for our path, surrender and obey His voice for us,.

In this podcast, the Accord Team, Rebecca and Naomi, talk about the fact that everything has to be done in the heart, but more so, the fact that everything that God does will always go to the heart of the matter. Whether we stay on the peripheral or whether we allow God to go the root of an issue is completely down to us, and when God takes us to that root, it requires depth, honesty, trust, thoroughness, and humility. It can be an uncomfortable, painful, awkward process in our flesh, but it will always lead to a place of new dialogue, new freedom and new relationship with ourselves and with God.
