Previously on Banger: after hearing of a murder at the waterfront, Miranda posed as a police officer to gain access to the crime scene. Finding the gun used to commit the crime, she left to research where it may have come from before transforming into Banger to inquire at the police headquarters how she might be able to help further.

Previously, after defeating the strange girl, Nightshade found himself pulled into a strange, apocalyptic wasteland, where the sky was pitch black. Searching for water, he was directed toward a tower looming in the distance, visible in every direction, yet never growing closer, no matter how far he walked. After sleeping in the regolith, he used the strange device given to him by the Joint Task Force, which took him to another alien landscape. Throwing the mysterious sword and dagger into a seemingly bottomless pit that he found there, he used the device once more, this time, finally returning to San Diego.

Previously, Nightshade and Airheart tracked the energy signature of the strange weapons to the outskirts of San Diego, where they found the mysterious girl awaiting them. After a vicious battle, they emerged victorious, but the girl was badly wounded. Once, he was just a sailor earning his livelihood from the ocean’s bounty, but after a century and a half frozen in Antarctic ice, he’s emerged with strange new powers to protect the high seas. He is: The Whaler.

Previously, upon reaching the South China Sea, the ship sent out a drone to investigate the last known location of the most recent missing ship. When contact with the drone was lost, Arick sent in the Whaler, armed with special tools and weapons for operating at depth. Finding no sign of the missing drone other than an oily cloud, he decided to go deeper, eventually reaching a point where he lost communication with the ship as his equipment stopped working. Finally, he reached the ocean floor, where he found some debris, and was forced to hide as a shadowy swarm approached.
