Esther II: Chosen
Esther 2:1-23

Main idea: God works in all circumstances, good or bad. 

God worked through the summoning of prospective brides for Xerxes (2:1-14). 

God hid Esther’s identity and her relation to Mordecai (2:15-18). 

God gave both Esther and Mordecai favor with the king (2:19-23). 

Esther may have been chosen by Xerxes, but she was first chosen by God.

Esther I: Circumstances
Esther 1:1-22

Main idea: The events of this world are in God’s hands. 

Great power is wielded by man, but true power only comes from God (1:1-9). 

Even the most trivial of events can have a tremendous impact (1:10-12). 

Fear leads us to make ungodly decisions (1:13-18). 

Rebellion is appropriate when it is in opposition to sin (1:19-22).

In Service of God: A Challenge to the Minister
Romans 15:1-33; 1 Timothy 3:1-7

Main idea: The minister lives in service to God, not self. 


Ministry requires a position of selflessness (15:1-2).


The minister lives by Christ’s example (15:3).


The minister encourages unity in the church (15:5-9).


All Christians are ministers (15:14-16a).


The minister is God’s instrument for ministry (15:16b-19).

The church is strengthened by its complementarian nature (16:1-16). 

Those who labor in the church are to be commended (16:1-16). 

Be guarded against those who cause discord (16:17-18). 

The obedience of the church brings glory to God (16:19-23).
