Aughinish Alumina will, under a new oversight arrangement, be expected to provide the Government with regular evidence its products are not supplying the Russian military .

This will include documentary evidence gathered by SGS, a Swiss auditing company hired by Aughinish, which will examine the Co Limerick plant’s supply chains in Russia. 

Minister of State Niall Collins, who represents the Limerick constituency where the plant employs hundreds of people, says any decisions must take into account the economic impact and wider commercial considerations.

The number of people killed on Louth’s roads during the first six months of this year has already exceeded the figure recorded at the same stage in 2025, prompting renewed calls for urgent action to improve road safety.

The issue was raised at the latest meeting of Louth County Council, where councillors voiced concerns over a number of dangerous locations across the county. Among the proposals being considered is a major safety upgrade on the N33 Ardee Link Road, where plans are being explored to install a central safety barrier to prevent dangerous overtaking.

Councillors have also sought updates on a number of local road safety projects, including a long-awaited pedestrian crossing in Termonfeckin, amid calls for vital works to be prioritised.
