Steve Martin has a bit where he talks about the value of building on your goal, starting out small and then building towards your big ass hairy goal, right? Now for him that means starting out as the all-being master of the universe and then maybe going to Europe. Now he's joking of course, but the spirit of that concept is a valid one.
I don't really have any advice for you this week. No tidbits, no hints, no words of wisdom. I just wanted to check and make sure you're doing alright.
So why the daily pep talk, Bill? What's all this positive nonsense? Look, between you and me, being negative wears me out. All the anger and the arguing and the negativity, it's just the stress, the worry, ugh, that it brings on, wearing me out. So I thought, let's combat it with some positivity.
I've always told my kids the secret to success is showing up. And you will find that many times it's easy to show up, but there are those days where you just don't feel it. And those are the days that it's really important to show up.
I help coach a high school cross country team and what we teach the kids is rather than always racing against the number one runner, especially when you're practicing, race against yourself. What are your goals for the year, for the season? Where do you want to see yourself? How do you want to improve? And then compare yourself and race against that.
Today we're talking about perseverance. Never quitting on yourself or each other if you're part of a team.
The hardest part about finding success is trusting the process. It's easy to want to shift gears when things are taking too long. But sometimes you just have to trust the cosmos.
