A new comics Ape-och begins as Jack and Geoff begin looking at the first storyline in Boom! Studios’ 2010s Apes series The Long War! Set 600+ years after the events of Battle for the POTA, the sudden, brutal murder of the Lawgiver by a machine-gun wielding ninja throws the city-state of Mak into chaos! These introductory chapters bear several classic POTA hallmarks: well-rounded characters on both sides of the ape/human divide, simmering inter-species tensions that mirror the real world, and some great great gorilla speechifying! In this special bonus Ape-isode, Jack and Geoff are joined by Barm for a look at the little-remembered 1996 chimp baseball movie Ed! Matt LeBlanc’s big-screen ambitions got off to a rocky start, and there are myriad reasons why: the jokes are flat, the story is hackneyed, and the chimp at the center of it all elicits more contempt than any ape discussed in the history of the podcast. Listen in and learn exactly why nobody needs to watch this movie ever!

It’s the final Slaydown! Jack and Geoff have come to the end of 70’s Marvel UK POTA mag’s ill-advised attempt to graft an Apes narrative onto unrelated material, as the Apeslayer visits Yankee Stadium for his final adventure! The two marvel for the last time ever at an ape-faced crab monstrosity, a scantily-clad molecular biologist with a heart of gold, and the surprisingly-humiliating defeat of the title’s best ape villain. Farewell Apeslayer; we hardly knew ye!

Jack and Geoff are joined by Sam Stovold for a return to the world of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal! Season finale Slave of the Scorpion has ape-men in it, which is excuse enough around these parts for another in-depth discussion of this vibrant, violent masterpiece. The three have a lot of love for this episode and Primal as a whole, and still find time for frequent digressions into dogs, SPACE PLAYERS, and other assorted nonsense!

The Apeslaying insanity continues in Marvel’s UK POTA magazine, as Jack and Geoff stop off at the Museum of Terror before arriving at the Airport of Death! Apeslayer’s got a new look, his double-froed friend Mala is starting to come into his own, and the book finally has an ape worth giving a damn about. While marveling at the new creative team and the editors’ continued inability to prevent the War of the Worldliness from peeking through, your ape hosts also take a deep Earth history dive into April 1975, courtesy of previous guest Sam Stovold!

This time around, Apeslayer is fighting for his life against ape tripods, giant lizards, and increasingly bizarre ape-headed robot/mutant creatures that definitely scream Planet of the Apes! The three also get into some Earth history from a year that may or may not be germane to the time these issues were originally published.

In a return to the weird world of 70’s Marvel comics, Jack and Geoff turn their gaze toward the UK’s POTA mag, and the Apeslayer contained therein! Chained to a weekly publishing schedule and starved for fresh Apes content, the editors made the only logical choice: they took a bunch of War of the Worlds comics, drew ape heads over the aliens, re-christened its protagonist, and called it a DAYpe!
