We continue with the Seven Principles of Acknowledgment
Today we are on Principle #4 - Acknowledgment Energizes People - Lack of Acknowledgment Diminishes Them
Here’s what Judy Umlas says about this principle in her book
Grateful Leadership -Using the Power of Acknowledgment to Engage All your People and Achieve Superior Results:
“Recognize and acknowledge good work wherever you find it. It’s not true that people only work hard if the worry whether you value them. Quite the opposite! As a Grateful Leader, your gratitude and appreciation motivate and inspire them to go beyond what they perceive as their limits. They will want to give you their best performance and will do whatever it takes.”
What do you think about this principle?

Today’s ever increasing ”busy-ness” affects us all
Yes, even us podcasters.
The fall is almost upon us. I don’t know about you, but my life becomes busier in the fall. I have school age children. So there are many demands on my time
I would imagine there are many demands on your time too. That is why I am so thankful that you think this podcast is worth listening to.
So I took all the demands on my time to my thought leader / sounding board, Judy Umlas, and after a few minutes of discussion I was given a challenge
I’ll call it “Two Minutes of Gratitude”. The idea is to get my message to people in 2 minutes. The goal is to make the best use of your time, so you can get your Art of Grateful Leadership message and receive it quickly
So beginning this week, the podcast will have two minutes of content; focused and to the point.
I will be doing this for the next few weeks are an experiment so please send me your feedback; send it to [email protected] and lets see how it goes.
So on with the show!
Today we are going to talk about the 3rd of the seven principles of Acknowledgment: “Acknowledgment can help diffuse jealousy and envy.”

I have heard people talk about acknowledgment
And the fact that if you acknowledge too often, you will cheapen it.
It will no longer be seen as valuable or a motivator.
Could this be true?
I don’t think so
And I believe that Judy Umlas would agree with me.
How can I be so confident?
For three very specific reasons that each and every Acknowledgment requires:

High School Sports are very competitive.
Kindness is also important, especially for a new student at the school. Let me tell you about a meeting I went to for my son's High School soccer team.

There has been a theme over the last couple episodes of the art of Grateful Leadership Podcast
It’s all about improving your acknowledgment skills
We started with stretching our acknowledgment skills by getting to know people better
as well as growing our acknowledgment vocabulary
Then we emphasized the need to “acknowledge in the moment”
And acknowledge people from the heart
As Judy Umlas says: “If an acknowledgment comes from the heart, it cannot be done wrong.”
Acknowledgment is a skill that can be learned
The question is: “Can Acknowledgment be Mastered?”

Judith W. Umlas, the author of
The Power of Acknowledgment
And
Grateful Leadership: Using the Power of Acknowledgment to Engage All Your People and Achieve Superior Results
Repeats one thought time and time again to me
Its:
“If the acknowledgment comes from the heart, you cannot do it wrong.”
Lets listen to a couple examples
