In this episode, we talk about perfectionism. I used to cringe even admitting perfectionism (I was more comfortable with calling myself someone with type A tendencies) and as I’ve been on a journey of learning to love and accept all parts of me, I really started to get to know this part of me that is a perfectionist.
We talk through:
blending with this part and what that sounds like
the unhealthy dialogue from being blended with this part
unblending from this part and what that sounds like
giving ourselves permission from a perspective that feels healthy
From a very young age we've been told that the best strategy to be like-able and accepted is to "just be yourself" At the same time, we were surrounded with messages, feelings of pain, shame, judgment and really peer pressure that made us feel like we had to alter who we were to "just fit in." So this idea of just being ourselves somehow got lost along the way.
