 A federal court has sentenced Austin Thompson to 27 months in prison for the role he played in a series of DDoS attacks against multiple parties and services, including Daybreak Game Studios (as Sony Online Entertainment), Battle.net, League of Legends, and Dota 2, in 2013.

A press release from the Southern District of California’s U.S. Attorney’s Office spotted by Polygonnotes that the court has also ordered Thompson to pay $95,000 in restitution to Daybreak.

 Console makers are weighing their options following a period of economic unease between China and the US and, according to sources speaking to Nikkei Asian Review, are considering moving some game console manufacturing out of China as a result.

As the three companies warned in an earlier letter to the Trump administration, a significant shift in production like that would cause a significant supply chain disruption and raise console costs in the process. Rumors of the shift also come as both Sony and Microsoft are building toward the release of their next-generation consoles, while Nintendo reportedly has an unannounced new Switch model or two in the works as well.

 Nintendo’s paid Switch membership has surpassed 10 million subscribers worldwide, a milestone announced alongside talk of Nintendo’s plans for emerging technology and other topics at a recent Q&A with shareholders.

Last we heard of Nintendo Switch Online, the service had amassed 9.8 million subscribers worldwide. That last milestone came a little over two months back, so around 2 million subscribers have signed up for the service in that small amount of time.

 Some of China's most prominent game developers have banded together to create a new age rating system for video games launched in the lucrative region.

As reported by Bloomberg (via Chinese paper People's Daily's), the group includes big-names like Tencent, NetEase, and Perfect World, and it seems like those involved hope the new system will make it easier to gain approval to launch and monetize games on home soil.

 3D Realms has changed the name of its first-person shooter Ion Maiden to Ion Fury after being sued by the heavy metal band Iron Maiden for trademark infringement. 

Iron Maiden filed the lawsuit back in May, and accused 3D Realms of "incredibly blatant" infringement on their Iron Maiden trademark.
