The Judgment of God
Text: Romans 1:26–2:16 (Romans Part 2)
Introduction
We’ve traced the downward spiral of mankind:
- The Anger of God – Romans 1:18-20
- The Avoidance of God – Romans 1:21-23
- The Allowance of God – Romans 1:24-31
Now we arrive at the sobering conclusion in Romans 1:32:
Romans 1:32 “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”
God’s judgment is not random or unfair — it is based on truth, righteousness, and Jesus Christ Himself. Let’s look at three truths we must all understand:
I. The Reality of God’s Judgment (Romans 2:1–3)
Romans 2:3 “And thinkest thou this, O man…that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?”
Everyone — rich or poor, church member or heathen — will stand before God.
II. The Reasons for God’s Judgment (Romans 2:6–11)
III. The Righteousness of God’s Judgment (Romans 2:11–16)
Romans 2:12 “For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;”
Whether a man sins without the law (the pagan) or with the law (the religious), he is lost without Christ.
“Someone can go to hell from a bar stool or a church pew — both are lost without Jesus.”
IV. The Redeemer in God’s Judgment (Romans 2:16)
Romans 2:16 “In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.”
In Christ, We Are Safe from Condemnation
Conclusion:
You will face God — either in judgment with your sin, or in Christ without condemnation. Come to Jesus today — He’s the only way to escape The Judgment of God.
