Proverbs 22:28 – Remove Not the Ancient Landmark

• Historical Context: Stones marked tribal and family lands in Israel.
• Spiritual Significance:
  • 🪧 Provision – Trust in God’s placement.
  • 💎 Promise – Treasure of God's covenant.
  • 📈 Power – Track record of God’s faithfulness.

The Ancient Landmarks Represent:

3. 📖 Miraculously Relevant Truths

• Shimei was shown mercy by Solomon—given life on one condition: don’t leave Jerusalem (don’t cross the line).
• He eventually broke that condition, and it cost him his life.

Three Things Shimei Could Have Said

1. “I’ve Been Faithful” (v.39)

• Years of obedience don’t erase one act of rebellion.
• Quote: “By breaking his oath to God and Solomon, the old curser of David cursed himself.”
• Key Point: Past faithfulness does not guarantee present obedience.
• ✝️ We don’t work for God's love or favor—we work from the Cross.
  • Guard your testimony
  • Guard your sanctification
  • Stay in bounds

2. “It’s Not That Far” (v.40)

• Geography may have seemed insignificant—but obedience matters.
• Historical Note: Shimei could’ve possibly gone to Gath without crossing Kidron, but intent still broke the king's command.
• 🔑 Application: When you're tempted to compromise—go talk to the King (God) before crossing the line.

3. “What About Forgiveness?” (v.41–43)

• David had forgiven.
• Solomon had given a second chance.
• But willful disobedience leads to judgment.
• ❗Grace should lead to gratitude, not presumption.

Conclusion

• Solomon removed those whose hearts were not loyal—then came peace.
• ✝️ Likewise, we experience peace when we remove what opposes Christ’s reign in our hearts.

🔹 INTRO

• John the Baptist: a bold preacher of repentance and deliverance
• He confronted sin—even when it cost him
• In John 8, religious leaders were ready to kill a woman in adultery but ignored Herod’s sin
• Now, John is in the dungeon for speaking the truth

🔸 1. Repentance Was Offered (v. 3)

• John preached truth to power—even to Herod
• His message didn’t change, even when the audience was dangerous
• Real preaching offers deliverance, not comfort

🔸 2. Revenge Was Desired

• The Wicked Queen (Herodias) nursed a grudge
• The Worldly Party (v. 6) created an atmosphere of sin
• The Woman’s Trick (v. 8)—Herodias used her daughter to trap Herod

🔸 3. Regret Was Certain (v. 7)

• Herod made a foolish vow
• He silenced the voice of God in his life
• Luke 23:7—Herod later mocks Jesus, showing no repentance

🔸 4. Real Faith Is Seen (v. 12)

• John's disciples buried his body and carried on
• Faith is seen in what we do—even when all seems lost
• John fulfilled his calling: “He must increase, but I must decrease.”

• Faithfulness often brings persecution, not popularity
• The world rejects Christ—and His messengers
• But we must stay faithful, as John did, even to the end

God was not just delivering Israel from Egypt, but bringing them to Himself. The Passover marked a new beginning—a time of redemption by God's righteousness.

I. The Lamb Was Chosen – Exodus 12:3

• Chosen specifically by God.
• Jesus is the Chosen of God (Luke 23:35; 1 Peter 2:4).
• He fulfilled Isaiah 53: “as a lamb to the slaughter.”

II. The Lamb Was Choice – Exodus 12:5

• A lamb without blemish—pure and perfect.
• Christ was sinless (1 Peter 1:19; Hebrews 4:15).
• Only a spotless Savior could take our place.

III. The Lamb Was to Cover – Exodus 12:7, 21–27

• The Lamb had to be slain (1 Cor. 5:7).
• The blood had to be applied—personally and publicly.
• Salvation came when the blood was on the door.

Final Thought: Christ is our Passover Lamb—chosen, perfect, and slain. But His blood must be personally applied to your heart.

Lessons from a Godly Mother:

• She Taught Him to Pray (1 Sam. 1:9-11, 27-28; 3:19) When worship is present, prayer is powerful. Moms, it’s your joy and privilege to teach your children to pray and worship.
• She Taught Him to Keep Promises (1 Sam. 1:24-28) Hannah kept her vow to the Lord. Godly moms model integrity and faithfulness.
• She Taught Him to Praise (1 Sam. 2:1-10) Don’t just pray—praise! Hannah’s song of praise reminds us that answered prayer deserves wholehearted gratitude.
• She Taught Him about God’s Promotion (1 Sam. 2:18-21) God gives more than we could ever gain on our own. Trust in His provision and timing.

Final Thought:

A mother carries a child for 9 months—but her lessons last a lifetime.

Introduction:

• He had an Amazing Promise
  • Luke 1:15a – “For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord”
• He had an Astonishing Pattern
  • John 1:19-23 – John identifies himself as “the voice of one crying in the wilderness”
• He had an Advancing Program
  • Baptism ministry

➡️ Last week: Focused on the ministry of John the Baptist ➡️ This episode: Focus on the message of John the Baptist

1️⃣ A Christ-Centered Message (John 1:19-29)

• The Prophecy:
  • “Behold the Lamb of God” — speaks of forgiveness
• The Preferred:
  • John 1:30 – “This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.”
• The Picture:
  • Baptizing (John 1:30-33) — a symbol of Christ’s coming work
• He kept Proclaiming:
  • John 1:36 – “Behold the Lamb of God”

2️⃣ A Conviction-Filled Message (Mark 6:18-19)

• John called for repentance – but people got offended when he named their sin
• In a world of:
  • Weak Pulpits: No bold stand against sin
  • Worldly Practices:
    • Effeminate influence in dress, manner, doctrine
    • 1 Cor. 11:14 – “It is a shame for a man to have long hair”
  • Withered Convictions:
    • Double-minded and unstable (James 1:8)

Application: We need bold, conviction-filled preaching today

3️⃣ A Message Concerned with Humility (John 3:30)

• “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
  • Two musts: One for Jesus, one for me
  • Both are necessary for spiritual success

Closing Thoughts:

• John’s message was powerful because he made it about Jesus, not himself
• He preached Christ as Savior
• He preached against sin because he hated sin like Jesus did
• He humbled himself as Jesus humbled Himself

Intro: Today we honor real-life heroes—and see how four friends became heroes of faith by getting a helpless man to Jesus.

I. The Hearers (Mark 2:1-2) "It was noised that he was in the house." Jesus looks for:

• An Open Heart
• An Open Hand
• An Open Home

II. The Helpless (Mark 2:3) The paralyzed man:

• Couldn’t get to Jesus
• Couldn’t help himself
• Only Jesus could save him
