Yvan and Thom make the transition from the SRDB podcast to episode 1 of the Ask Tell Make Podcast. They discuss what Ask Tell Make represents in police training and how it still applies. They also go into how it no longer applies. The modern police officer has to always ask themselves, " am i serving the public interest through my actions." Viewing use of force through that lens will usually put you on the right side.
Yvan and Thom talk some of the legalities of the current lockdowns and how it is unprecedented in modern times. They discuss very little tiger king and focus on how police will have to interact with citizens who refuse to comply, future litigation and generally how to handle the situation.
Episode 18: Fun With Quarantine is about Yvan and Thom's attempts to remain sane during the Covid 19 Quarantine. They discuss what they've been binge watching and of course Tiger King comes up. They go into people who believe Corona Virus conspiracy is a huge government conspiracy and how those people probably put healing crystals up their butts. Somehow, they also talk about how grateful they are to be spending this time with their family. It's a real roller coaster...
In this Episode Yvan and Thom talk to Donavin Britt over Zoom. Donavin is the owner of Las Vegas Krav Maga and he breaks down what his school is all about as well as the origin of Krav. They talk about the Covidiots. Covidiots are people that choose to hoard toilet paper instead of being responsible and considerate...they usually are the ones that have to be told to wash their hands. Yvan issues Thom and Donavin the Sgt. Jenkins challenge to honor the fallen sergeant. It is 4,196 reps of any one exercise in the month of April. Donations can be made to Sgt. Jenkins family at ipof.vegas.
Stephan Kesting joins the sophomoric duo over Zoom to discuss the COVID 19 pandemic that is currently holding the world hostage right now. They discuss some options for first responders, how a BJJ gym owner will remain in business during this time and to be thankful for the things that we have. Thom also makes fun of Yvan for having to pee halfway through the episode!

Yvan and Thom talk about fake martial arts and the emergence of Gracie Jiu Jitsu in the early 90s. The emergence of Gracie Jiu Jitsu and the training modalities that arise from it have fundamentally changed the way martial arts is taught. Moreover, it has made a clear distinction between functional and non functional martial arts. In the 90s in the wake of MMA these fake martial arts started to dissapear. Now they are making a come back. The legendary fight between Rickson Gracie and Yoji Anjo is discussed in detail and Yvan man crushes on Rickson a little bit. The article that is referenced is from BJJEE
Erica Chadwick from TacMobility joined Yvan and Thom via zoom and discussed how first responders can better process the every day stress and trauma they encounter. She goes into detail about how stress and traumatic incidents can manifest into a host of physical ailments. At some point Thom and Yvan discuss how giraffes fight with their necks and somehow it all ties in together. You can find more about Erica and the work she is doing at www.Tacmonility.net and on Instagram as @tacmobility.
Yvan and Thom discuss the elevator pitch they need to accurately describe the show. They settle on middle age LEOs who like Brazillian Jiu Jitsu and have a bunch of kids....They move into a discussion about leadership where they discuss servant and situational leadership. Yvan brings up Baron Von Stueben and the Battle of Valley Forge, but can't remember the name. They discuss how American's as a culture need to know the "why" to be lead. They go on to talk about being a true servant leader and having difficult conversations when necessary. Get your people to own the mission and they will perform, micromanage them and they will not.
Yvan hosts the show solo, while Thom is on his ayahuasca retreat. His guest is Leandro Lorenco, the owner and operator of the Wand Fight Team gym as well as Milestone BJJ. Leandro is the author of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructorship: the student to teach transition (available on amazon.com). They discussed Leandro's reason for starting martial arts in the beginning as well as his journey from student to teacher and ultimately business owner.
