Justin and Dan break down all the angles from Auburn basketball’s historic, SEC title-clinching win over Kentucky at Rupp Arena. They start by discussing the significance of winning this version of the conference, outright, with a full week of the regular season left to play. Justin explains why he thinks this team can already be called one of the best ever.
Then it’s a breakdown of all the pieces that made this win happen: Miles Kelly’s absurd shooting performance, Auburn’s Denver Jones-less defensive masterclass, Tahaad Pettiford’s phenomenal point guard play and Chad Baker-Mazara’s takeover ability in a game that didn’t feature much from Johni Broome and the frontcourt. Dan makes a great observation about the game where he first saw this team’s potential.
The guys conclude the episode by looking at the rest of a wild Saturday in SEC basketball — particularly Tennessee’s last-second heist over Alabama to gift wrap a championship for Auburn and how Georgia might have played itself into the NCAA Tournament this week. They look ahead to the Texas A&M trip before shouting out some more great performances from the late Gene Hackman.
