Shawna Rodrigues’ roots are in a small town and a big family. Her appreciation for beauty stemmed from the orchards, lakes, and mountains of Southern Oregon. Her sense of adventure from chasing siblings in their alfalfa field and clamoring to get the perfect blackberry.

Her drive to make a difference meant a career that moved her all over the United States and helped her learn how much she loved experiencing unknown places and connecting with people. She found that the illumination of a cityscape could be just as entrancing as the brilliant stars of a country night. She also discovered her passion for travel—whether lounging on a beach, traversing a mountain, or savoring a downtown coffee shop.

In 2017, when the world went sideways—as it sometimes does—she half-jokingly told her friends she needed to write or else the universe would keep giving her things to write about.

Luvy Lubker has researched Queen Victoria’s family for over 7 years, and the Victorian Era for 10, as she read about Charlotte Bronte and the literary world before the Royals.

She has always more or less been a researcher, but her focus as a child was animals, biology.

She has read about many different branches of Queen Victoria’s family and their connections but always come back to Roger Fulford’s books of Queen Victoria’s letters with her eldest daughter, Victoria, Princess Royal, or Vicky, who married the future Emperor Friedrich III, Fritz, and became the mother of Kaiser Wilhelm II.

She has been teaching herself German for over 3 years and working to translate books of “Fritz”’s diary for over a year.

Luv lives in Texas and also enjoys spending time with her family, making and eating delicious raw food, riding her bike (which she has only been able to ride for a year even though she has been able to ride a unicycle since she was 7), reading and researching.

Joyce Reynolds-Ward is a speculative fiction writer who splits her time between

Enterprise and Portland, Oregon.

Her short stories have appeared in Black-Eyed Peas on New Year’s Day, Children of a Different Sky, River, How Beer Saved the World 1 and 2, Fantasy Scroll Magazine, and Trust and Treachery among others.

Her books include three series: The Netwalk Sequence (Netwalk: Extended

Edition, Netwalker Uprising, Netwalk’s Children, and Netwalking Space),

Goddess’s Honor (Beyond Honor, Pledges of Honor, Challenges of Honor,

Choices of Honor, and Judgment of Honor) and The Martiniere Legacy (base

trilogy Inheritance, Ascendant, Realization; related work The Heritage of Michael Martiniere and Broken Angel: The Lost Years of Gabriel Martiniere plus three forthcoming books), as well as current standalone Alien Savvy and Klone’s Stronghold.

Joyce has edited two anthologies, Pulling Up Stakes and Whimsical Beasts. She

has earned Semifinalist and Honorable Mention placements in Writers of the

Future. Her book Pledges of Honor was a 2018 Self Published Fantasy Blog-Off

Semifinalist.

Besides writing, Joyce enjoys reading, quilting, horses, and other outdoor

activities. She is a member of Soroptimist International of Wallowa County.

Joyce is also a Board member of the Northwest Independent Writers Association.

Joyce spent ten years working as a special education teacher in a small rural

middle school on Mt. Hood. That job opened the pathway for skiing and spending a few years as a teacher ski bum.

She spent two years teaching online PE and Health (yes, it’s doable, no, it doesn’t involve Skype) which was a fascinating experience in many ways. This experience provides the foundation for one of Joyce’s recent books, Klone’s stronghold, in which the central character needs to figure out how to teach her cryptid construct students. The ski bum teacher life also drove a good part of the background of Joyce’s characters in the Netwalk Sequence series.

Joyce also currently owns one horse, a 20-year-old Quarter Horse mare, Miss

Olena Chic (Mocha). Joyce’s horse experience goes back to age nine when her parents were given a yearling Shetland pony. She acquired not only a lot of bruises from that pony but a decent riding seat.

Unlike many other writers in the science fiction and fantasy genre, however, Joyce rides Western and not dressage, and aligns more with cowboys than knights.

Somehow that shows up in her fantasy stories. Joyce’s horse background also plays a large role in her most recent work, The Martiniere Legacy series.

I was first drawn to writing as a way to express my feelings when oftentimes, I found that I couldn’t say them out loud. That’s why my writing is more on the dark side of the romance spectrum. I tend to write in a way that showcases real scenarios and events. My books tackle mental health, moral values, religion, and many other topics that are raw and real.

I’m not afraid to make my readers look at the darker side of humanity and question the very foundation of life and existence.

Welcome Annette To The Authors Porch

Annette is a U.S. Army veteran who served seventeen years and four months as a Chemical Officer. During her service, she had two combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

She is most proud of the title military spouse of 22 years, mother to a daughter, Haeli (20 yrs old; (college junior at Sam Houston State University) and son, Blaze (17 yrs old; high school senior at Robinson High School).

Annette was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army as a Chemical Officer from the ROTC Program at Arizona State University (Tempe, AZ). She holds a B.A. in Psychology from an M.S. in Environmental Management.

Retiring in Nov 2016 pushed her into being an Accidental Entrepreneur to be able to make up for lost time with her children and use her voice to share her story about real-life after the Army and living with mental illness.

Since her retirement, she has relocated from Fort Polk, LA to Fairfax, VA, to support her husband's military career.

Her blog, A Wild Ride Called Life ®, LLC. incorporates stories from her post-military life. She shares how she lives life as a mom and military spouse living with PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

Along with writing, she also hosts a podcast titled "The Truths We Hide." Not only does she share her story, but she also has guests who share and offer others advice, helping them realize they are not alone.

Annette is a mentor for veterans on Veterati and military spouses on Ementor. Annette also has a passion for volunteering. She volunteers as a TAPS mentor, Tragedy Assistance Program for children survivors, The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the Trauma Survivors Network.
