The Back 9 Report

Rory McIlroy is turning 2019 into one of his best-ever seasons after winning his fourth tournament of the year. The four-time Major winner beat Xander Schauffele in a playoff to win his fourth title of the year at the WGC HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China.

And while the win wasn't enough to erase the sizable gap between himself and world No. 1 Brooks Koepka, McIlroy is closing the gap, pulling almost within one point in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Tiger Woods made history at the Zozo Championship as he won his 82nd PGA Tour title. The 15-time Major winner co-led after day one and never looked back, eventually converting his 25th 54-hole lead on the PGA Tour to keep an incredible 100% record.

Woods is now level with Sam Snead on 82 PGA Tour titles and the record that once looked so far away is now looking odds-on. He has made 359 PGA Tour appearances with a winning record of 22.8%, higher than anyone in history.

Jason Day won the 17th and 18th holes to rally and capture the MGM REsorts The Challenge: Japan Skins, over Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Hideki Matsuyama.

The four-way match came down to the final putt — a putt for Woods — but it didn’t reach the hole. Day’s tap-in birdie, which followed a stellar bunker shot, earned him an extra $100,000, bringing his tally to $210,000 for the event. Woods and McIlroy tied for second with $60,000 while Matsuyama was only able to garner a single skin with $20,000 in his home country.

Kevin Na lost a three-shot lead on the back nine, saved his chances with a clutch par putt on the 17th hole and won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in a playoff Sunday when Patrick Cantlay three-putted the second extra hole.

Now, with two wins in the calendar year, Kevin Na should be on Tiger Woods' radar for one of four captain's picks on the Presidents Cup team.
